About 70% Dissatisfied with Summer Workplace Environment; 'Temperature Differences' Identified as Key Issue

Kaunet Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Noritomo Miyazawa), which provides e-commerce services for the Kokuyo Group, conducted a survey on summer heat countermeasures among 1,089 members of its community site 'Kaunet Monica' and released the results on May 28, 2026. It has been nearly a year since the Industrial Safety and Health Regulations were revised last June, making heatstroke prevention in the workplace mandatory. This survey summarizes the current challenges in the workplace following the legal changes and the actual state of heat countermeasures at home and in private life.

In recent years, the number of extremely hot days has been increasing, and as the importance of heatstroke prevention in the workplace has grown due to legal revisions, creating an environment to protect the safety of workers has become an urgent task for companies. Therefore, ahead of the full-scale summer, this survey was conducted to highlight the current state of the workplace environment one year after the mandatory measures and the realistic countermeasures at home, seeking hints for safer and more comfortable ways of working and living.

- Regarding the summer workplace environment, only 18.1% feel that 'air conditioning and temperature management are appropriate and comfortable,' while about 70% feel some dissatisfaction. Resolving 'temperature differences' and 'unevenness' by location is a challenge.
- 42.1% reported feeling the risk of heatstroke while working, and 54.4% in their private lives, with the latter being about 10% higher.
- The most desired heat countermeasures in the workplace are 'enhancement of cold drinks and supplements' (42.6%), indicating a need for easy solutions. Attention is also on cooling goods and wearable devices.
- 73.3% felt the risk of heatstroke in their private lives when 'outdoors.'
- Regarding air conditioner usage at home in summer, about 70% use it actively, with 38.8% turning it on as soon as they feel hot and 30.2% leaving it on.
