Enhancing Requirements Definition Document Review with Generative AI

OBSYS Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Osaka; President and CEO: Toshio Toyoda; hereinafter "the Company") is pleased to announce that, utilizing the Future Society Co-creation Consortium system (Note 1) of the National University Corporation Osaka University Co-creation Organization, it has conducted "Demonstrative Research on Generative AI-based Requirements Definition Document Review Support (Note 2)" jointly with the Graduate School of Information Science, Software Design Course, starting October 2025.
## Background and Content of the Research
The requirements definition process in system development is a crucial step where development requests from users are received, and the scope of what can be realized as a system is determined. The requirements definition document is an important deliverable that describes these, but there are many related documents such as user requirements and meeting results, making comprehensive confirmation cumbersome and requiring significant person-hours for consolidation. Furthermore, if omissions or inconsistencies are discovered in later stages, there has been a risk of serious trouble that could affect the entire system development plan.
To address this challenge, this research focused on methods for verifying the consistency of requirements definition documents and related materials through demonstrative research in the development process of our in-house package products. A review support method was devised and verified to automate the extraction and mapping of requirements using generative AI. As a result, it was confirmed that missing requirements and requirements with unclear rationale, which were often overlooked in conventional manual checks, could be detected with high accuracy.
## Future Developments
Currently, we are promoting preparations for applying the results of this research to actual projects. Going forward, we will apply these research results to our in-house development projects and propose them to customers who face challenges in improving the quality and efficiency of their requirements definition processes.
In the world of system development leveraging generative AI, an era is arriving where "AI develops software itself," such as "Vibe Coding" (a development method where AI handles program implementation based on human instructions), and a dramatic improvement in software development productivity is expected. Within this context, the requirements definition process is a stage where human demands for a system are materialized, and it has become a very difficult process to mechanize due due to constraints of technology, cost, and time.
The Company aims to further promote the utilization of generative AI, taking this research as an opportunity, and to transform from "a process where humans plan and decide requirements" to "a process where AI organizes and analyzes requirements and constraints, drafts requirements, and humans make the final judgment."
We will also continue to promote the utilization of advanced technologies, including AI, through industry-academia collaboration, and strive to provide value to society through system development.

The Company is utilizing this system with the aim of gaining new insights into its initiatives for creating added value using generative AI.

A document that defines and summarizes how to realize (system development) the requirements from the system development client. This work is performed in the upstream process of system development.
