Special Exhibition "Yukio Horio Stage Art: A Play of 'Infinity'" at Higashi-Hiroshima City Museum of Art; Advance Tickets Now on Sale

Yukio Horio (1946– / born in Hiroshima), a leading figure in stage design, has created the set designs for over 700 performances, including operas, NODA-MAP productions led by Hideki Noda, works by Koki Mitani, Miyuki Nakajima's "Yakai," and Shinosuke Tatekawa's "Shinosuke Rakugo." Regarding his approach to stage design, Horio states, "The freedom found in the drawings of children at a school arts festival is crucial. The stage is a form of 'play'." This exhibition focuses on approximately 50 stage art models and production materials, delving into the world of stage design, and also includes works themed on the atomic bombing. Furthermore, it reveals the behind-the-scenes process of creating works with directors through moving models, production anecdotes, and a recreation of his workshop. After graduating, he worked in film special effects before establishing HORIO Inc. in 1981. He began working professionally as a stage designer in 1982, collaborating with numerous directors such as Hideki Noda, Koki Mitani, and Yukio Ninagawa.
