UPDATE Inc. Wins Entrepreneur Division at NIIGATA Venture Award 2026

UPDATE Inc. (Headquarters: Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, CEO: Nagayuki Harayama) was awarded in the Entrepreneur Division at the NIIGATA Venture Award 2026 Public Presentation and Awards Ceremony held on June 2, 2026, at NINNO (Chuo-ku, Niigata City).

During the judging, we presented our business creation model, which expands our business domain from housing to vacant house renovation, building demolition, land utilization, trailer houses, and solar power generation, revitalizing the land and buildings remaining in the region.

Our efforts to not only build houses but also to identify regional challenges as new business opportunities, thereby creating lifestyle options and employment, were recognized, leading to our award in the Entrepreneur Division.

Since our founding in 2018, under the management philosophy of "A home for everyone," we have aimed to provide high-quality housing suitable for Niigata Prefecture at prices accessible to more people. We currently have bases mainly in Nagaoka City and the Chuetsu region, as well as in Niigata City, delivering approximately 120 houses annually.

■ To realize "A home for everyone"

The fundamental issue we address is the insufficient provision of high-quality housing suitable for Niigata Prefecture.

Niigata Prefecture experiences very hot and humid summers due to the Foehn wind and heavy, moisture-laden snow in winter. The temperature difference throughout the year is also significant, leading us to view Niigata as one of the most challenging climates in the world for human habitation.

High-quality housing that can withstand this environment can be built with sufficient investment. However, high-quality homes tend to be expensive, posing a major hurdle for regional residents seeking to own a home.

Our core business is to popularize housing that possesses the necessary performance for Niigata's climate at an affordable price, rather than just cheap houses.

■ Incorporating Double Insulation Learned in Hokkaido and Harayama Kasei Kogyo's Styrofoam into Niigata Housing

The origin of our founding business, Plus Home, lies in the concept learned from building houses in Hokkaido, a cold region: balancing high insulation and airtightness with affordability. We have adapted housing performance that keeps the entire house comfortable with minimal heating and cooling equipment to Niigata's climate, advancing housing construction that can cope with summer humidity, heavy winter snow, and annual temperature fluctuations.

Furthermore, we utilize styrofoam manufactured by Harayama Kasei Kogyo, where our representative, Harayama, has family ties, as insulation material for our houses. By using insulation material manufactured within our group, we can reduce procurement costs while providing high-performance housing.

Double insulation, with insulation material placed both inside and outside the walls, creates housing that easily maintains a comfortable temperature throughout. Our completely custom-designed homes are proposed one by one, tailored to Niigata's snow shedding methods, lighting plans, site conditions, and family structures.

■ Commercializing Unresolved Regional Issues with Housing as an Entry Point

Our business does not end with building a house. We have launched new businesses based on the challenges customers bring to us regarding housing demand, renovations, vacant houses, and land utilization.

In response to the increase in single-person households, we operate a flat-house specialty store that enables compact and affordable housing acquisition. We offer realistic homeownership options for couples whose children have grown up, those planning for retirement finances, and individuals concerned about loans.

To address the growing number of dilapidated vacant houses and old buildings, we established our own building demolition business. We view demolition not merely as the process of tearing down a building, but as an entry point for regeneration, connecting land to subsequent housing construction or business utilization, playing a role in reactivating unused land and buildings in the region.

To counter the soaring prices of new homes, we are engaged in the real estate and used home renovation business. By purchasing vacant and used houses and renovating them to improve their living performance, we expand homeownership options beyond new construction.

Additionally, for land that is difficult to build on or land whose use is uncertain, we operate a trailer house business. These can be connected to water and electricity and are proposed as new options for small local businesses and land utilization, serving as residences, shops, offices, accommodations, or disaster relief bases.

■ Regenerating Regional Stock Assets and Increasing Options for Homeownership and Land Utilization

Due to population decline and changes in household composition, vacant houses, empty lots, dilapidated buildings, and unused land are increasing in regional areas. Meanwhile, rising housing prices and construction costs are causing many to give up on homeownership.

We view these not as individual problems but as challenges related to how to utilize the region's existing stock assets.

By integrating housing, real estate, demolition, used home renovation, trailer houses, solar power generation, and large-scale wooden structures, we can offer proposals tailored to the condition of the land and buildings.

Demolish old buildings to create residential land. Regenerate used houses for residential reuse. Place trailer houses on land difficult for construction, utilizing them as shops or accommodation bases. Combine solar power generation with house roofs or land.

Our business development aims to reactivate the region's assets and increase options for regional residents' homeownership and land utilization.

■ Creating 100 Businesses and 100 Presidents

We emphasize not only increasing businesses necessary for the region but also nurturing management talent internally to lead these businesses.

Our vision is to create 100 businesses and 100 presidents.

We are building an organization that assigns business leaders, including young people and women, to each business such as housing, real estate, demolition, solar power generation, and trailer houses, entrusting them with responsibility based on their performance and potential, regardless of age or gender.

Creating new businesses in the region also means creating new employment and opportunities for challenges. By fostering an environment where young talent can remain in Niigata, lead businesses, and aim to become entrepreneurs, we will generate a new industrial circulation within the region.

Encouraged by our award in the Entrepreneur Division of the NIIGATA Venture Award 2026, we will continue to pursue business development that updates the entire region, starting from our original principle of "A home for everyone."
