Yurarisu Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Akishima City, Tokyo; President: Shuntaro Kawamura, hereinafter "Yurarisu") is pleased to announce that, in cooperation with the Care Facility for the Aged at Fujisanroku Hospital, managed by Seiyo Kai Medical Corporation (Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture), it conducted a usability evaluation of the urine collection support pad "Yurarisu®︎" from June 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026.
This usability evaluation targeted the urine collection tasks during health checkups at care facilities for the aged. It aimed to assess the ease of use and burden on staff by comparing Yurarisu®︎ with conventional methods. With the on-site cooperation of the Care Facility for the Aged at Fujisanroku Hospital, the evaluation will contribute to product improvement and the development of user-friendly operational methods for the field. In accordance with the facility's regulations, eligible residents were informed about this usability evaluation in advance, and records were managed anonymously using subject IDs.
Background: The Burden of Urine Collection in Care Facilities for the Aged
Care facilities for the aged conduct health checkups several times a year to continuously monitor the health status of residents. In particular, collecting urine from residents who constantly wear diapers presents significant challenges in terms of both work hours and mental burden.
Furthermore, failed urine collection attempts lead to repetitions, affecting the residents' sleep and the quality of care. As securing caregiving personnel becomes increasingly difficult nationwide, reducing such unseen burdens on the front lines is a common management challenge for the care facility for the aged segment.
Yurarisu has developed and sold "Yurarisu®︎," a urine collection support pad that collects urine in liquid form simply by attaching it inside a diaper. It supports the reduction of burden and workload during urine collection while balancing ease of attachment and consideration for the skin.
About the Care Facility for the Aged at Fujisanroku Hospital
The Care Facility for the Aged at Fujisanroku Hospital, managed by Seiyo Kai Medical Corporation, is located in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is a care facility specializing in dementia, with three floors and approximately 158 beds in its long-term care ward. As a central regional facility providing integrated medical and nursing care for the elderly requiring long-term care, it supports the quality of life for each resident. The facility places particular emphasis on dementia care, offering support that stays close to individuals with dementia and their families.
The facility has actively worked on improving on-site operations, valuing both the dignity of residents and the ease of work for care staff. Cooperation in this usability evaluation is part of these efforts, and the accumulation of knowledge that can lead to reduced burden not only within their own facility but also for the entire care facility for the aged segment is positioned as a contribution to the region and the industry.

Background of the Initiative
This usability evaluation would not be possible without the on-site cooperation of the Care Facility for the Aged at Fujisanroku Hospital. The facility's participation, dedicating its own operational time, stems from a recognition that the industry as a whole needs to address the following challenges faced by caregiving sites:
The necessity of reducing the workload during night shifts and creating an environment where care staff can continue to work, as securing caregiving personnel becomes increasingly difficult.
The reality that the success of urine collection tends to depend on the experience of the staff, affecting the psychological burden on the site and the quality of resident care.
The current situation where methods and variations in urine collection during health checkups remain across different care facilities for the aged.
The insights gained from this usability evaluation will be utilized for operational improvements at the Care Facility for the Aged at Fujisanroku Hospital and for enhancements to the Yurarisu®︎ product itself. Both parties will promote this initiative as an effort to balance the reform of working styles in caregiving sites with gentle care for residents.
Future Prospects
Based on the results of this usability evaluation, Yurarisu will proceed with the following initiatives:
Refinement of operational methods for ease of use on-site and reflection in product improvements
Development of usage guides and operational procedures for on-site staff
Rollout to care facilities for the aged and elderly care facilities nationwide facing challenges with urine collection during health checkups
Yurarisu will continue to provide user-friendly options for both individuals who find urine collection difficult and their supporting family members and healthcare/caregiving professionals.
