Towards a Summer Vacation in the 40°C Era. "Kurano Mist Sea of Clouds" Appears at Kawagoe's Popular Tourist Spot, Koedo Kurari, for Parents and Children to Enjoy

Machidukuri Kawagoe Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, President: Mikio Kurihara) will hold the summer event "Kawagoe Cool Scenery 2026 ~Summer Kurakumo ~" from Saturday, July 18, 2026, to Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Koedo Kurari (Kawagoe City Industrial Tourism Hall) in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture.

This year, we will further evolve the popular "Mist Sea of Clouds" project, which was featured in many media outlets last year, by adding new content such as a sea of clouds photo spot and special white koji amazake, designed with heatstroke prevention in mind.

The historic storehouses, which are Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan, will be enveloped in a fantastical mist, creating a cool landscape as if you are in a sea of clouds. Amidst growing calls of "few places to take children during summer vacation" due to recent extreme heat, Koedo Kurari proposes a summer retreat spot where parents and children can enjoy feeling cool together.

Additionally, a new "Kawagoe Cool Scenery 2026 Sea of Clouds Photo Spot" will be introduced at Kikizake-dokoro Showa Kura, combining mist from above with a sea of clouds spreading at your feet. You can enjoy taking fantastical photos.

Simultaneously, the facility will host the "Let's Cool Down in the Kurari! Kurari's Chilled Gourmet Fair." In addition to shaved ice, cold sweets, and meals, we will offer chilled menu items to help you spend the hot summer comfortably, including a special amazake drink made with white koji, which contains citric acid, with heatstroke prevention in mind.

Furthermore, as a unique attraction of a facility utilizing a sake brewery, we will also offer limited-edition summer alcoholic drinks, such as a red perilla sake (akishiso-shu) soda split, made with Japanese herb red perilla. Everyone from children to adults can enjoy the coolness in their own way.

Koedo Kurari aims to become a new summer tourist spot in Kawagoe where the whole family can enjoy themselves safely, even in the extreme heat.

Hiding in the mist, children are geniuses at finding ways to play.

Koedo Kurari is a facility renovated from a sake brewery about 150 years ago.

Koedo Kurari, whose three storehouses are designated as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan, is a facility renovated from the buildings of the former Kageyama Brewery (which ceased operations in 2000), which was founded in the early Meiji era, while retaining their original appearance. Named "Meiji Kura," "Taisho Kura," and "Showa Kura" according to their construction periods, it is a facility of great cultural value where one can compare the architectural methods of each era.

Omiyage-dokoro Meiji Kura is a kurari where Kawagoe's specialty souvenirs are gathered, and it houses a cafe and the shop of "Koedo Kageyama Brewery," the only sake brewery in Kawagoe City today. In April, the locally popular select gift shop "Nekoya Nyankichi" also newly opened, becoming a topic of conversation.

Makanaidokoro Taisho Kura features Hassho-tei, a restaurant where you can enjoy locally sourced meals, allowing you to relax and enjoy local sake and meals in the solemn atmosphere of the kurari.

Kikizake-dokoro Showa Kura brings together all the sake breweries in Saitama Prefecture, with over 50 types of sake available for comparative tasting using the paid tasting machines in the store. Snacks and fermented foods are also sold.
