My name is Sachiko Akagawa, and I serve as the director of Takanawa Steiner Kindergarten in Minato Ward, Tokyo. Takanawa Steiner Kindergarten has decided to hold "Parent-Oriented Early Childhood Education Experience Sessions" primarily for parents raising children aged 3-5, on May 30th and June 13th.
Takanawa Steiner Kindergarten was established in 2008, but this is the first time in 18 years that we are seriously offering an opportunity for parents themselves to physically experience the kindergarten's education.
Today, we adults live surrounded by generative AI and IT. We spend a lot of time exposed to vast amounts of information, staring at screens, and constantly making decisions using our minds. While many things have become convenient, on the other hand, I feel that activities like creating things with our hands, touching materials, and slowly feeling with our five senses have unknowingly decreased.
However, what children truly need in their early years is something very simple, physical, and warm.
Using hands. Repeating. Feeling the seasons. Trying things themselves. I believe that through the accumulation of such daily experiences, children's senses develop, their will grows, and the foundation for living is nurtured. That is why this time, I wanted parents themselves to first experience the education intended for their children.
It is difficult to truly understand the essence of education just by observing or listening to explanations. But I believe that by grinding wheat with your own hands, making bread, and drawing while touching colors and shapes, you can physically feel a part of the world in which children are growing every day.
【Event Outline】 Name: Parent-Oriented Early Childhood Education Experience Session Dates: May 30, 2026 (Friday) 10:00-12:00, June 13, 2026 (Friday) 10:00-12:00 Venue: Takanawa Steiner Kindergarten Target: Parents of 2-3 year olds Capacity: 10 participants per session Participation Fee: Free Content: Grinding wheat to make bread, watercolor painting, etc.
Takanawa Steiner Kindergarten values children spending their time actively using their bodies within a regular daily rhythm.
Furthermore, handmade school lunches and snacks, made without additives and utilizing the natural flavors of ingredients, are also an important part of our daily activities. Instead of providing flashy stimuli, we carefully savor the richness found in daily life together with the children. We have continued this kind of childcare.
Precisely because convenience and speed are constantly increasing, isn't it necessary for adults, not just children, to also have time to use their hands, engage their five senses, and slowly feel something?
I would be very happy if this experience session becomes an opportunity for parents to re-examine what is truly important for their children's growth.
