Ohakanri Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Yoshiko Hasebe), which aims to make graves a free and accessible presence, has opened the 'Metropolitan Cemetery Support Center.' From June 12 (Fri) to July 3 (Fri), 2026, the center will provide comprehensive support for Tokyo residents wishing to secure a plot in a metropolitan cemetery, including selecting application categories, confirming eligibility, handling application procedures, and assisting with post-selection document screening, permit acquisition, grave construction, and burial. Consultations begin on June 1 (Mon). The recruitment for metropolitan cemetery users for fiscal year 2026 includes 6,903 spots, with the lottery scheduled for August 14 (Fri). As public cemeteries established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, they offer stable management and diverse options from general plots to joint and forest-style burials. However, there are many conditions to check in advance, such as application categories, residency requirements, status of remains, and confirmation of the ritual officiant. Furthermore, in the post-selection document screening, if applicants do not meet the qualifications or fail to provide necessary documents within the deadline, they may lose their eligibility even if they win the lottery. The Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association warns that every year, some applicants are disqualified due to lack of qualifications.
