Tojo Gas Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that the "Technology Demonstration Project in National Parks" commissioned by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism was completed on June 22.
'Smailet' Selected for Demonstration Project in National Parks
Tojo Gas Co., Ltd. handles the sales and after-sales support for 'Smailet,' a self-contained water recycling toilet manufactured and developed by Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co., Ltd.
The "Technology Demonstration Project in National Parks," which has now been completed, was a public call for proposals aimed at realizing sustainable management and enhancing the appeal of urban parks, and promoting the introduction of advanced technologies and initiatives to national parks.
Our company aims to contribute to the sustainable management and enhanced appeal of national parks. We proposed 'Smailet,' a self-contained water recycling toilet that allows visitors to use restrooms comfortably even in locations without adequate water and sewage infrastructure, thereby enhancing the park's attractiveness.
This proposal was adopted by the Tohoku National Government Park Office, and we have now installed the water recycling toilet 'Smailet' in the National Park Michinoku Mori no Kohan Park, managed by the same office, to conduct a demonstration project.
During the demonstration, we surveyed the needs of many visitors of all ages who used the facility at the national park, and also conducted a demonstration using an LP gas generator powered by LP gas, which is our core business.
[Demonstration Period]
March 17, 2026 (Tue) - May 10, 2026 (Sun)
[Demonstration Location]
National Park Michinoku Mori no Kohan Park, North District, Kazeno Kusaen, within the Park Golf Course

Demonstration Results
Including intensive use during a two-day major music event held during the demonstration period (operating time: 31 hours, total usage: 1,609 times), the facility was used a total of 1,872 times.
In the user survey, we received responses from a total of 713 people for 6 types of questionnaires. The facility received high marks for "odor" and "cleanliness," confirming that it holds great promise for improving the satisfaction of park visitors.
Furthermore, the demonstration of its integration with an LP gas generator confirmed stable power supply regardless of weather conditions. This proved that it is an extremely effective option for BCP (Business Continuity Plan) measures, maintaining toilet functions even during disasters when commercial power is out.
Based on these demonstration results, we will promote the introduction of 'Smailet' in public facilities, including parks, and contribute to the realization of a sustainable and resilient society.
Features of Smailet
1. A container-type toilet that functions as a Western-style flush toilet but requires no connection to water or sewage, and is movable.
It can be used with just a 100V power supply, making it possible to relocate and use immediately in disaster-stricken areas in addition to normal use.
2. Comfortable Toilet
This product is certified as a "Comfortable Toilet." It can be used comfortably without any unpleasant odors.
3. Everyday Use x Disaster Preparedness: A Phase-Free Toilet Usable Anywhere
It is ideal for installation in locations without infrastructure, such as parks and riverbanks, or as a disaster preparedness toilet.
Furthermore, if the facility where it is installed is closed, it can be relocated and reused, enabling effective utilization of assets and financial resources.
