Offering a solution to the waste problem in the leather industry. Commencing fundraising on the crowdfunding platform 'CAMPFIRE'.

A large quantity of mouton scraps generated during the processing stage has traditionally been discarded. However, with the eye and skill of artisans, these 'waste materials' can be transformed into 100% natural, completely unique, one-of-a-kind stuffed animals. This project is a challenge to achieve zero waste, and simultaneously creates value for handcrafts and a form of sustainable manufacturing.

■ Social Issue Solved: Waste Reduction

In Japan's leather processing industry, scraps are almost inevitably generated during the pattern-making and cutting processes. Especially for high-quality natural mouton (sheepskin), due to its irregular shape, the waste rate is said to be about 30-40% of the total.

Discarded scraps cannot be reused due to their size, leading to landfilling or incineration. However, natural mouton is originally a highly valuable natural material, excellent in antibacterial properties, heat retention, durability, moisture absorption, breathability, and non-flammability.

This project breathes new life into this 'valuable material that was being discarded'.

■ The Core of Artisan Skill: Why scraps can become stuffed animals

● Artisans assess the direction, density, and flexibility of the fur to form parts into a single plate.
● Parts of subtly different sizes are cut to a uniform length.
● Skilled artisans three-dimensionally sew them using a specialized mouton sewing machine, ensuring fur does not get caught in the seams.
