Japan Stryker Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Satoshi Mizusawa) will launch the "T2 Alpha Humerus" intramedullary nailing system for the treatment of humerus fractures nationwide to orthopedic surgeons on July 1, 2026. Fractures of the shoulder and upper arm bones are common in daily life, often caused by falls. In elderly individuals, reduced bone quality can lead to fractures even from minor impacts. When surgical bone fixation is indicated, intramedullary nails or plates are used to stabilize the fracture site. Following the launch of the "Pangea" plate product series in October 2025, the release of "T2 Alpha Humerus" will expand our product portfolio for humerus bone fixation surgery.
"T2 Alpha Humerus" Humerus Intramedullary Nailing System and its usage illustration.
As part of the "T2 Alpha" nailing system, which has an extensive track record both domestically and internationally, "T2 Alpha Humerus" is an intramedullary nailing system specifically designed for the humerus. This product consists of a straight nail inserted into the medullary cavity from the proximal central part of the humerus and screws to fix it. It also includes a targeting device that supports accurate insertion from outside the skin, and newly developed specialized instruments for surgeons.
The design utilizes our proprietary 3D bone database, "SOMA (Stryker Orthopaedics Modeling and Analytics)". Based on bone density analysis data and evidence from past fracture patterns, the design incorporates features to enhance fixation stability. The position and angle of fixation can be selected according to the patient's condition. Furthermore, by employing a special material (polymer sleeve) inside the nail, we have addressed concerns about screw loosening and dislodgement.
In developing this product, clinical data based on the bone structure and physique of Japanese patients was reflected. To accommodate the expanding range of applications due to an aging population and to meet the need for minimally invasive treatments, Japanese physicians participated from the development stage, contributing their expertise to the design.
[Reference] Market Environment
Approximately 33,000 surgeries for humerus fractures are performed annually in Japan.
Humerus fractures, along with proximal femur fractures (approximately 135,000 cases annually) and wrist fractures (approximately 65,000 cases annually), are common in the elderly. With the advancement of an aging society, fractures due to falls are on an increasing trend.
