Crowdfunding Challenge to Erect a Statue of Ryoun Takamatsu, Pioneer of Modern Medical Care

Ryoun Takamatsu, born in Koimeshi, Ogori City, was a physician who embodied the spirit of medicine and philanthropy in modern Japan. He served as a doctor for the Shogunate forces during the Hakodate War, where he treated the wounded regardless of whether they were friends or enemies. He is considered a pioneer of modern rescue services, having established medical schools and hospitals.

To pass down the aspirations and spirit of Ryoun Takamatsu, who laid the foundation for medical welfare, the Ryoun Takamatsu Statue Construction Executive Committee was formed on April 23, 2025. The committee is now undertaking its first crowdfunding challenge with a target of 15 million yen, intended for the statue's production cost (10.6 million yen) and the pedestal (5 million yen).
