Tomioka Beach to Open for the First Time in 25 Years

Event Name: Tomioka Beach Opening Ceremony

Date and Time: July 17, Reiwa 8 (2026), 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Location: South side of Tomioka Fishing Port

○ Tomioka Town will open the "Tomioka Beach," which had been closed for a long time due to the development of Tomioka Fishing Port and the Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Power Plant Accident, for the first time in 25 years.

○ Before the earthquake, Tomioka Beach was visited by many beachgoers, mainly children from the town, and was loved as a place of relaxation symbolizing the town's summer. This opening has been made possible through the dedicated efforts of many stakeholders, including the townspeople, and is one of the initiatives symbolizing the creation of vibrancy in our town and the steady progress of reconstruction.

○ During the opening period, we will implement safety measures such as assigning lifeguards and establishing a rescue system to ensure that everyone can enjoy the beach with peace of mind.

○ On July 17 (Fri), the day before the beach opens, we will hold an "Opening Ceremony" to pray for the safety of the sea, as well as mini-events such as an opportunity for children from Tomioka Municipal Nico Nico Kodomoen to experience "Their First Tomioka Sea" and a treasure hunt on the beach. We kindly request that you cover the Tomioka summer, which has returned for the first time in 25 years.

Tomioka Beach Opening Details

Opening Period: July 18 (Sat), Reiwa 8 (2026) - August 9 (Sun) [23 days]

Swimming Hours: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: Tomioka Beach (South side of Tomioka Fishing Port)

Main Safety Measures

○ Assignment of lifeguards and establishment of a first-aid station

○ Marking of swimming areas

○ Establishment of an emergency response system in cooperation with relevant organizations

○ Appropriate judgment on swimming permissibility according to weather and sea conditions

○ "My First Tomioka Sea" and "Beach Treasure Hunt Game" We will hold the experiential event "My First Tomioka Sea" for children of Tomioka Municipal Nico Nico Kodomoen to experience the Tomioka Sea for the first time, and the experiential event "Beach Treasure Hunt Game" where participants search for hidden treasures on the beach.
