Special Screening Held at Europe’s Largest Pop Culture Event, 'Japan Expo 2026'!
The TV anime 'Tenmaku no Jaadugar,' which began airing in Japan last weekend and quickly became a trending topic, has also sparked excitement overseas through social media following its global platform releases. The series held a special screening at 'Japan Expo 2026,' Europe’s largest pop culture event held in Paris, France! The screening of episodes 1 to 4 drew a massive crowd, making the event a huge success! Before the screening, TV Asahi’s producer Kazuki Endo was welcomed with thunderous applause and took the stage to share the series’ appeal with the audience!
When asked by the MC about the path to anime adaptation, Producer Endo explained, 'I originally read the manga and thought it was incredibly interesting—I really wanted to adapt it into an anime myself. As you’ll see when you watch it, the art style is highly stylized and very cute, yet it balances serious developments and a heavy storyline in a uniquely compelling way.' He continued, 'Animating highly stylized characters fluidly is actually more difficult than drawing realistic, high-proportion human figures. I felt that most ordinary animation studios would struggle to adapt this manga. That’s why I believed only Science SARU, a studio that has consistently pursued artistic challenges, could do it. I reached out directly, and they deeply resonated with the work, leading to our collaboration.'
Furthermore, the production team, including Chief Director Naoko Yamada and Director Abel Gongora, conducted on-site research in Mongolia, the setting of the story. Producer Endo recalled, 'I had the opportunity to join the research trip to Mongolia with Chief Director Yamada, Director Abel, and the background art staff. We visited museums and studied local materials, but what left the strongest impression was staying overnight in a ger.' Reflecting on the experience, he said, 'We stayed with nomadic families in their gers and experienced their daily lives firsthand. This allowed us to truly feel how the characters would adapt to life in Mongolia and interact with its culture. I believe this experience has greatly enhanced the authenticity of our scenes and various depictions,' earning a thunderous round of applause from the audience.
When asked about collaboration with the original creator, Tomato Soup, Producer Endo explained, 'Depicting the culture and history of that era was extremely challenging. Our entire production team sincerely researched countless documents and references. Tomato Soup-sensei is, in fact, a serious historian, and we received detailed reference lists from them. We repeatedly asked questions like, “Is this depiction accurate?” or “What was the intention behind this scene?” and maintained close communication. We also received cooperation from various other scholars and experts.' The MC responded with astonishment, saying, 'That’s incredible…' The audience gave another round of applause as Endo passionately emphasized that the series’ deep historical and cultural authenticity, widely discussed on social media, was only possible thanks to the collaboration with Tomato Soup-sensei and other experts.
Finally, Endo concluded the pre-screening talk session by saying, 'Today offers the rare opportunity to watch episodes 3 and 4, which haven’t been publicly released yet. I truly believe the animation is so captivating from the very beginning that I hope you all enjoy it thoroughly until the very end.'
After the screening, the venue erupted in thunderous applause, cheers, and passionate reactions, marking a grand success for the 'Japan Expo 2026' special screening.
