We are pleased to announce that a corporate group comprising 8 companies, led by Sumitomo Corporation, has been officially selected as the land use developer for the 'Kyushu University Hakozaki Campus Redevelopment Area Land Use Developer Recruitment' by Kyushu University and the Urban Renaissance Agency Kyushu Branch, as of Thursday, March 26, 2026.

■ Background for Project Commencement

This project aims to realize the 'Kyushu University Hakozaki Campus Redevelopment Area Grand Design' by leveraging Kyushu University's history and vast grounds to create a hub where diverse people gather and innovation is born. It is also one of Japan's largest smart city developments, blending tradition and innovation based on the principles of 'FUKUOKA Smart EAST'.

Industry, government, academia, and citizens will work together, each fulfilling their roles, to create and disseminate new industries, realizing future town development that leads the world as an environmentally advanced city.

To achieve sustainable development while solving various urban development challenges such as the declining birthrate and aging population, this initiative aims to create comfortable, high-quality lifestyles and urban spaces through the introduction of advanced technologies, and to engage in town development that can be proud of in the future.

As a pioneering step, efforts will be made in the town development of Hakozaki, which will then spread throughout the entire city, extend beyond the city, and reach more people.

■ Vision for the Town

Hakozaki, the planned site, has a history of tradition and pride passed down for over 100 years since the opening of Kyushu Imperial University in 1911. This project aims to leverage its historical background and vast grounds to create a hub where diverse people gather and innovation is born.

The concept is 'HAKOZAKI Green Innovation Campus'.

By incorporating the IOWN concept, which is innovative technology development driving game-changing advancements for national competitiveness on a global scale, we will build an environment capable of creating smart service updates and new services that constantly incorporate new values and technologies. By integrating and coordinating various smart services, we aim to provide more appropriate services and realize the model of a future smart city.
