Last year's "Ipponzuri Festival" featured tuna landed locally, with a bustling tuna block sale area from early morning.

At Mikuni Port in Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, known as a fishing port for Fukui brand "Echizen Gani" (Echizen snow crab) and "Fukui Amaebi" (Fukui sweet shrimp), the famous Sunday morning market "Mikuni Port Ipponzuri Festival" will be held on July 12th. While Mikuni Port's main catch method is bottom trawling, there is a rocky reef called "Gentatsuse" offshore, which is an excellent fishing ground, and pole-and-line fishing from small boats is popular. Recently, tuna often migrate in the Sea of Japan, and at the "Ipponzuri Festival," a wide variety of landed fish will be available. This year, the Mikuni Port Cafeteria will debut "Kaisen-jiru" (seafood soup) luxuriously made with sweet shrimp, along withburi (yellowtail) zuke-don (marinated yellowtail rice bowl).

"What kind of fish will be available at the market stalls depends on the fishermen's catch up to the day before. You might be able to get amazing fish when you go to the morning market! We hope you'll look forward to that," said a representative.

"You never know what fresh fish will appear on the market stalls. It's a surprise for the day!"
