Great Harmony Foodservice Limited (“Great Harmony”), a subsidiary of Wada FoodTech (headquartered in Tokyo and Osaka)—a developer of next-generation food service platforms—has partnered with a local school meal provider to implement Wada FoodTech’s hot-chain technology for bento deliveries at an international school in Hong Kong. Leveraging a proprietary thermal management system and specially designed hardware, the company delivers hygienic, delicious, and hot meals to students every day.
Background and Features of Hot-Chain Technology In the field of school lunches, the most critical challenge is balancing food safety and hygiene with the 'freshly cooked taste.' A major concern in food sanitation is avoiding the 'danger zone' (30°C–40°C), where bacteria causing food poisoning are known to thrive.
This delivery initiative utilizes Wada FoodTech’s hot-chain technology to realize a hygiene management system based on HACCP principles. By combining heating and insulation systems with custom-designed food containers, the system consistently maintains a high-temperature zone of 65°C or above throughout the entire process—from cooking and transit to delivery and handover at schools—effectively suppressing bacterial growth. Furthermore, by linking with IoT devices, the system automatically tracks and records real-time temperature data during transit, ensuring high levels of hygiene and quality.
Leadership Comments Manabu Oikawa, Co-founder of Wada FoodTech and Managing Director of Great Harmony, commented: 'It is a great honor to contribute, however modestly, to the international community in Hong Kong, including the Japanese community, by using Wada FoodTech’s hot-chain technology for bento deliveries. I sincerely hope that children can enjoy warm, high-quality meals every day with peace of mind and grow up healthy.'
Seishiro Tsukuda, General Manager of Wada FoodTech Japan, commented: 'The hot-chain technology and equipment used here have been rigorously demonstrated, verified, and refined in Japan’s highly competitive office delivery market. We are delighted that this stable temperature management system, polished by feedback from numerous corporate clients in Japan, is being utilized in the critically important setting of Hong Kong’s educational environment to support children’s health and rich dining experiences.'
Jason Chen, Co-founder and CEO of Wada FoodTech, commented: 'I am delighted that our innovative hot-chain technology has been adapted for such a vital field as school lunches, which support children’s health. We are currently in specific negotiations with several major global school meal providers regarding its implementation. Moving forward, we aim to become a platform provider that enhances the service quality and safety of food service providers worldwide by offering our thermal management infrastructure under a "PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service)" model.'
