Approximately 80% of Women Support Men's Skincare, About 70% Also Positive About Aesthetic Medicine Consultations

A survey by Maison PUREJU found that approximately 80% of women support men engaging in skincare, and about 70% are positive about men consulting aesthetic medicine specialists. The survey highlights that women perceive 'clear skin' as an important aspect of a man's cleanliness and first impression, and that signs of aging on a partner's skin can negatively affect their impression. The findings suggest that men's concerns about societal judgment for skincare are largely unfounded from their partners' perspectives.

Maison PUREJU (Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Director: Masafumi Hirose), a plastic surgery and dermatology clinic, conducted an "Awareness Survey on Men's Skin and Partner's Sense of Cleanliness" targeting 552 women aged 25-59 who are in a relationship or married. The results showed that 83.5% of women responded that men's skincare is "Very Good/Good," and 65.8% responded positively to men consulting with aesthetic medicine specialists. The 'real feelings' of men's beauty from the perspective of female partners in 2026 have been revealed as data.

【Survey Background and Objectives】
In recent years, men's awareness of beauty has changed significantly, and the number of men engaging in skincare is steadily increasing. On the other hand, it is also true that many men who want to start skincare or are interested in aesthetic medicine hesitate to take the step due to concerns about "what others will think." Maison PUREJU conducted a survey targeting women who observe their partners most closely. The objective was to clarify how women evaluate men's skin impressions and to gather objective data to help men take the step towards proper skincare.

【Survey Results】

■ Q1. What point makes you feel a sense of cleanliness most in a man's first impression?

The most cited point for a sense of cleanliness was "Clothing" at 35.1% (194 people), followed by "Hairstyle" at 21.9% (121 people), and "Clear Skin" at 20.3% (112 people). The top 3 accounted for 77.3% of the total, indicating that the evaluation of cleanliness is formed by the overall balance of grooming. Notably, "Clear Skin" ranked third, only slightly behind clothing and hairstyle, highlighting the significant impact of skin impression on first impressions.

■ Q2. What concerns you about men's skin?

Regarding concerns about men's skin, "dark spots" were the most frequent at 25.2% (139 people), followed by "sagging" at 22.8% (126 people), "wrinkles" at 9.2% (51 people), and "dullness" at 6.3% (35 people). On the other hand, 24.5% (135 people) answered "Not particularly concerned," and 12.0% (66 people) answered "None of the above." Combined, 36.5% said they were not conscious of skin concerns. This revealed that approximately 60% (63.5%) of women are conscious of men's skin.

■ Q3. Does the impression change if your partner's skin shows signs of aging?

Combining "Slightly concerned" at 37.0% (204 people) and "Feel it reduces the sense of cleanliness" at 19.6% (108 people), 56.6% (approximately 60%) of women responded that their impression changes due to signs of aging on the skin. This data from a partner's perspective shows that skin condition directly correlates with the evaluation of cleanliness.

■ Q4. Regarding men engaging in skincare

A total of 83.5% (approximately 80%) of women responded positively to men engaging in skincare, with 39.5% (218 people) saying "I think it's very good" and 44.0% (243 people) saying "I think it's good." Only 5.1% (28 people) responded "I don't think it's very good." This indicates that the anxiety about how others perceive men starting skincare is actually minimal.

■ Q5. Regarding men consulting with aesthetic medicine specialists about their skin

A combined total of 65.8% (approximately 70%) responded positively, with 14.7% (81 people) saying "I definitely want them to consult" and 51.1% (282 people) saying "I think it's okay to consult." It became clear that many female partners are actually encouraging the option of consulting with aesthetic medicine specialists.

【Director Masafumi Hirose's Comment】

"Many male patients visit our clinic daily for skincare consultations. The most common trigger for visits is referrals from their partners. Common concerns among male patients are 'I don't know my skin type' or 'I don't know what products to choose.' Skin quality and condition vary individually, so treatments must be custom-made to suit each person. The skin diagnostic machines 'AURA' and 'Neo Voir' introduced at Maison PUREJU allow us to visualize patient concerns and issues, and to find the fastest path to their desired skin together. Proper skincare begins with understanding your current skin condition. Based on over 15 years of clinical experience as a certified specialist of the Japan Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a board-certified plastic surgeon, I provide the latest aesthetic dermatology treatments tailored to every man who is unsure about skincare."
