The Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Japan Tennis Association (hereinafter, JTA), in collaboration with Kao's sunscreen brand "Biore UV," implemented "UV Protection Seminars" (hereinafter, seminars) from June to August 2025. While "Biore UV" has supported JTA as an official sunscreen supplier for six years since 2020, this specific initiative was the first of its kind this year.
The seminars were primarily designed to equip children who play sports outdoors under the sun with knowledge about UV protection, convey the importance of sun protection, teach the correct way to apply sunscreen, and encourage them to make it a habit. They were conducted one day each in Tokyo, Gunma, and Saitama prefectures, with the cooperation of the Kanto High School Athletic Federation Tennis Division in each prefecture that expressed willingness to participate.

Scene from the Seminars
▲ Lecture on the importance of sunscreen using slides
▲ Checking if sunscreen is applied using a UV camera
▲ Lecture on how to apply sunscreen while actually dispensing it onto hands
▲ "Biore UV" products among the sunscreens typically used
High school students who participated in the seminars listened attentively and actively reacted to each piece of content, showing a highly motivated attitude.
In recent years, with the ease of sharing opinions on SNS by both experts and non-experts alike, opportunities to encounter information about sunscreens and UV protection goods have increased dramatically compared to a few years ago. High school students, especially girls, who are sensitive to such topics, already have a high awareness of UV protection and many participants regularly take sun protection measures. However, the effects of UV rays on the skin, other than visible changes like redness, were new information to them, and their fresh surprise was impressive.
(4) Participant Survey
*Conducted via web and paper questionnaires after the seminars on July 26, 2025, and August 18, 2025 (N=183)*
In fact, many students consciously changed their approach to sun exposure and sunscreen immediately after the seminars, and this practical behavioral change can be considered a very significant achievement.
Furthermore, we received positive feedback on the seminar content from the accompanying teachers. This can be said to be a result that exceeded expectations in terms of reforming the awareness of the instructors.
Also, starting with the Kanto High School Athletic Federation Tennis Division, the teachers who visited the venues were very cooperative, and the day's operations proceeded very smoothly. This is presumed to have led to the students receiving the lecture with an honest attitude. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude.
On the other hand, there is a concern that this format allows only a limited number of people to attend the seminars.
Therefore, in 2026, we are considering a multifaceted approach with a view to nationwide expansion, such as packaging outreach programs and online distribution of the seminars.
JTA will continue to work with "Biore UV" to improve sports performance and create an environment where athletes can concentrate on their competition by reaching out to many people and addressing their concerns.
