The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) announces the 18th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2026). For the first time in the Kansai region, the forum will be held under the overall theme 'Strengthening Local Resilience to Planetary Crises: Scaling up Synergistic Solutions.' The plenary session (hybrid) will take place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Lassy Hall in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, and thematic sessions (online) will be held from August to October 2026.

The 'triple crisis' of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, compounded by rising global tensions, makes achieving sustainability increasingly difficult. As multifaceted responses are required at both national and local levels, the importance of 'synergy'—breaking away from traditional silos to seek synergistic solutions to various challenges—is growing.

At ISAP2026, IGES and UN agencies will introduce the latest report, the 'Asia-Pacific Synergy Report,' which compiles practical examples and recommendations. The forum will also discuss how to implement these synergies at the local level and how to scale up outstanding local initiatives, including those in Kansai, to an international level, thereby expanding the circle of synergy.
