ROHM Theatre Kyoto Opens Registration for 2026 'Theatre School' Creative Program for Youth

2026 Theatre School Welcome to the renewed Theatre School! Started in 2019, ROHM Theatre Kyoto's 'Theatre School' will now feature two courses: 'Deep Dive into Theatre!' and 'Challenge New Expressions!'. With artists active domestically and internationally as instructors, participants will use their bodies, think, and work together to 'create' in various fields of expression. Additionally, a stage staff workshop will be held with ROHM Theatre Kyoto staff as instructors. 【Event Information】 - Deep Dive into Theatre! Course Experience the creative process of theatre by collecting interesting things from everyday scenes, writing a script, directing, and acting. Instructor's Comment: 'I want to start creating from 'closely watching and listening' to things around you. I hope to share with you a method of creating theatre from discoveries, encounters, and coincidences.' Takuya Murakawa Director. Presents works using documentary and fieldwork methods in various fields. His pieces, born on the border of fiction and reality, explore what raw reality is. Major works include 'Zeitgeber' (2011-), 'Moonlight' (2018), and the stage version of 'Tennis' (2025). His play 'Jiken' received a special award at the 21st AAF Drama Awards in 2022. ■ Challenge New Expressions! Course Discover new ways of seeing and feeling by observing your body, objects, and places, and experience the process of creating your own new expression using your body, video, and installations. Instructors: Pijin Neji (Dancer/Choreographer), Michiko Tsuda (Artist) Dates: Aug 18 (Tue) - 22 (Sat) *Mini-performance on the last day. Pijin Neji's Comment: 'Let's create 'choreography' that guides movement based on observations and discoveries. We aim to generate new movements.' Michiko Tsuda's Comment: 'Let's observe a familiar space and capture our own world. Let's face ourselves through video and move our bodies.' Pijin Neji Dancer/Choreographer. Formerly a member of the Butoh company 'Dairakudakan.' He presents works focusing on the body's state, born from the interplay of voice and movement. Recent works include the trilogy 'Corona Report' and 'Seisei no Sensei' with YCAM. He considers 'choreography' as something that guides the emergence of movement.
