Intent of Holding "The Possibilities of Education for Facing Disasters ~Beyond the Perspective of Disaster Prevention~"

So-called "disaster prevention education" tends to focus on practical knowledge for disaster response, such as evacuation drills and shelter management. However, in the field of disaster transmission, discussions revolve around the significance of sharing universal values gained from confronting disasters, exploring ways of life through direct engagement with life, dignity, and human rights, and fostering critical thinking.

We believe that confirming and sharing these significances is what transforms "disaster prevention education" into true "education" in the classroom, and that this, in turn, becomes a driving force for disaster transmission. Focusing on "the possibilities of education for facing disasters," we will hold discussions based on reports from current teachers engaged in practical activities from a perspective that goes beyond disaster prevention, and from former teachers who practiced reconstruction education to explore the dreams of their communities after the earthquake.
