The Institute for Child Development and Science (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka City) was commissioned by Hamamatsu City to conduct a survey on the challenges and support needs of high school students.
This survey aims to understand the actual situation of high school students, against the backdrop of the issue that support tends to discontinue after the completion of compulsory education, and to serve as foundational data for the construction of future support systems.
■ Background and Objectives
Support systems for children with developmental and learning characteristics have been developed from infancy through compulsory education. However, after graduating from junior high school, support mechanisms and access opportunities are relatively limited, and it has been pointed pointed out that it is difficult for them to connect to support.
This 'gap in support after compulsory education' is a common issue not only in specific regions but also in many local governments and schools. However, the actual situation of high school students has not been systematically understood through data until now.
In this survey, we conducted a cross-sectional assessment of the actual situation in the fields of education, welfare, and employment, targeting high school students, parents, and teachers in Hamamatsu City, and collected basic data to contribute to the consideration of regional support systems.
The Institute believes that this initiative can serve as a reference for other local governments in considering support systems and formulating policies.
