On April 25, 2026, the "Ise City Museum of History" opened in Ise City, Mie Prefecture.

The museum introduces the history and culture of Ise from multiple perspectives, and is currently holding its first special exhibition to commemorate its opening, titled "Wearing Okihiki - The Memories of the Region Carried on Happi Coats".

About the Special Exhibition "Wearing Okihiki"

The "Okihiki Event" is a folk event held during the Grand Shrine of Ise's Shikinen Sengu (rebuilding ceremony). The 72 "Hikei-dan" (procession groups) formed within the city participate in the event, each wearing happi coats with different patterns and designs. The designs of the happi coats strongly reflect the region's history, livelihoods, and the pride of its residents.

This exhibition will display happi coats from all 72 groups, divided into four periods, introducing the regional stories carried on their backs and their diverse cultures.
