According to Agence France-Presse, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has succeeded as Supreme Leader but has not appeared publicly since before the outbreak of the war. It is widely believed that he is unlikely to appear at today's memorial activities.

Footage broadcast by Iranian state television showed thousands of people participating in memorial gatherings, many holding portraits of Khamenei, in locations including the capital Tehran, Urmia in the northwest, and Gorgan in the northeast.

The nationwide memorial event began at 9:40 AM local time (2:10 PM Taipei time on the 9th), the time when Khamenei and several high-ranking Iranian officials were reportedly attacked and killed.
