Middle East Conflict Impacts Madagascar, Declares State of Energy Emergency

According to Agence France-Presse, Madagascar, an Indian Ocean island nation, is entirely dependent on imported fuel, with most of it coming from Oman, adjacent to the Strait of Hormuz.

The Malagasy government stated in a release that due to disruptions in fuel supply affecting daily life, the economy, and public services, the cabinet decided to declare a state of emergency in a special meeting.

The statement noted: 'The special meeting agreed to declare a national state of energy emergency for a period of two weeks.'

The statement also said that this measure is in response to 'a severe crisis related to the war in the Middle East, which has caused irregularities in national energy supply.'
