Joint Inspection on Hoarding and Price Gouging of Plastic Products; Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office Inspects Upstream Production

The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office issued a press release stating that recently, livelihood plastic products have been affected by fluctuations in raw material prices. To prevent unscrupulous operators from hoarding goods or gouging prices, the Taoyuan Prosecutors Office launched a livelihood crime contact platform on March 31. They have collaborated with the Taoyuan City Investigation Station of the Investigation Bureau (Ministry of Justice), the Taoyuan City Police Department, Consumer Protection Officers of the Legal Affairs Bureau, and the Department of Economic Development to conduct multiple on-site inspections at mass retailers, hypermarkets, hardware stores, and traditional markets, continuing uninterrupted even during the extended holiday.

Chief Prosecutor Chang Chun-hui of the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office ordered upstream traceability management. This morning, Prosecutor Liu Wei-hong led a team, accompanied by the Investigation Station and Consumer Protection Officers, to inspect upstream plastic packaging manufacturers in the jurisdiction. The operators pointed out that current product prices are adjusting normally according to raw material costs and that shipments are stable, hoping downstream clients avoid placing massive orders to prevent hoarding situations.

The Taoyuan Prosecutors Office stated that it will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Justice and the High Prosecutors Office's policy of "full-time monitoring and immediate handling." By monitoring the market through a cross-agency platform, any discovery of illegal hoarding or price gouging will be immediately investigated and penalized according to the law. They urge the public to consume rationally and urge businesses to fulfill their social responsibilities, cooperate with government policies, and jointly maintain market order and price stability.
