President Lai Ching-te fully promotes Hakka Six Arrows policy, deepens cooperation with Asian countries to go international

President Lai Ching-te met with the 2026 visiting delegation of the Asian Taiwan Hakka Federation this morning. In his address, the President emphasized that the delegation is an important force for Taiwan to go global. Since its establishment in 2011, the Asian Taiwan Hakka Federation has successfully connected Hakka compatriots in multiple countries and regions, including Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Cambodia. They have long worked hard overseas, always caring for and supporting Taiwan, allowing the world to see Taiwan. The President stated that the government has an undeniable responsibility to ensure the generational transmission of Hakka culture in Taiwan and to lead Taiwan's Hakka culture onto the international stage. Since taking office, the government has fully promoted the "Hakka Six Arrows" policy, including "Public Hakka," meaning that Hakka culture does not solely belong to Hakka compatriots but should be a Hakka culture for all of Taiwan, hence the designation of Hakka language as a national language. He said that the second is "Hakka Cuisine." The Hakka Affairs Council has excellent policies to promote Hakka cuisine throughout Taiwan, establish brands, and assist in entrepreneurship. He pointed out that the third is "Youth Hakka." The Hakka Affairs Council has specially established a Youth Advisory Committee to widely gather opinions from Hakka youth, which can assist the Hakka Affairs Council in promoting Hakka culture and the construction of Hakka settlements. In addition, there is "Hakka Creation." The President said that the government needs to assist young people in starting businesses. In addition to policies and budgets from the government, the National Development Council, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Hakka Affairs Council has also specifically proposed policies and allocated budgets to assist young Hakka people in returning to their hometowns, where they were born and raised, to start businesses. The President stated that the fifth is "Regional Hakka." Hakka is actually a settlement and a region, such as Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli. During former President Tsai Ing-wen's tenure, there was the "Romantic Route 3" project, which connected Hakka villages in different counties and cities. In reality, different counties and cities are administrative divisions, but in terms of real life, activities, and regions, they are linked and connected. The President stated that the final sixth arrow is "International Hakka," to bring Hakka to the international stage. Therefore, during his tenure as Premier, he also approved the "World Hakka Expo," which was later successfully held in Taoyuan. The President pointed out that he fully supports Hakka development. Last year, 280,000 "Hakka Coins" were issued to encourage people to visit Hakka village stores, hoping to create a "Hakka-speaking" consumption living circle, allowing Hakka language to be implemented in daily life and achieving a win-win development for Hakka language transmission and economic improvement in Hakka villages. He stated that thanks to the joint efforts of the overseas Chinese community and the government, Taiwan has continued to deepen partnerships with various Asian countries in recent years. With key investment in Southeast Asian countries, investment protection agreements and agreements to avoid double taxation have been successively re-signed. In addition, there is close cooperation with Singapore in financial services, and solid cooperation foundations have been established with Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines in electronic manufacturing and industrial investment. The President emphasized that in the future, the government will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with various Asian countries in various fields such as economy, trade, industry, and education. He also looks forward to everyone upholding the spirit of "undaunted by hardship, pioneering new frontiers" of Taiwanese Hakka people, jointly deepening regional cooperation, and allowing the proud Hakka culture to flourish in more places.
