Multiple Vehicles Damaged After Hitting Debris on National Freeway 1 Linkou Section; Police Investigating

The First Freeway Police Brigade of the National Freeway Police Bureau received a report at around 1:14 AM that multiple vehicles had been damaged after colliding with debris on National Freeway 1, southbound, at kilometer 43.7 in the Linkou section. Patrol cars were dispatched to handle the situation and notify the maintenance section to clear the suspected iron debris. Currently, 12 vehicles have reported damage and are filing reports. Police are expanding their review of surveillance cameras along the route to trace the source of the debris.

Xie Renfa, a sergeant with the Freeway Police Brigade, stated in a media interview that according to the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act, drivers whose cargo falls onto the road can be fined between NT$3,000 and NT$18,000. He urged drivers to perform regular vehicle maintenance and to thoroughly check their vehicle's condition before driving to avoid breakdowns or parts falling off. He also stressed that items in vehicles should be tightly covered and securely fastened to prevent hazards to themselves and other road users.

The police urge drivers not to swerve drastically upon encountering debris. If there is insufficient time to slow down and avoid it, do not stop in the travel lane after hitting the debris. Instead, pull the vehicle over to the shoulder, place a hazard triangle, and move personnel to a safe location behind the guardrail.
