Establishment of the UX Evaluation Specialist Certification

The Japan Software Testing Association (IVIA) has announced plans to launch a new "UX Evaluation Specialist Certification" as part of its IT Verification Engineer Certification (IVEC), beginning with this year's autumn exam session (scheduled for late November to early December), and has released the syllabus (V1.0).

Announcement of the UX Evaluation Specialist Syllabus

In recent years, for software and IoT products, UX (User Experience) factors such as "ease of use," "sense of security," and "satisfaction," alongside functional quality, have become critical elements determining product value. Meanwhile, traditional quality assurance and testing have been dominated by "function-centric" verification, confirming that products operate according to specifications. This has led to increasing issues such as products that pass tests but remain difficult to use, or UX problems surfacing only after release.

Furthermore, with the progress of generative AI and the increasing automation of test design and execution, there is a growing importance for professionals who can evaluate not only "if it is built correctly (Verification)" but also "if it truly contributes to user value (Validation)."

The newly established "UX Evaluation Specialist Certification" aims to cultivate professionals capable of designing and implementing UX evaluation from the early stages of development, considering this era's background. Based on international standards such as ISO 9241-11, ISO 9241-210, and ISO/IEC 25019, this certification covers the following practical skills:

- UX evaluation design based on usage context and user requirements - Derivation and validation of UX evaluation perspectives - Analysis of UX evaluation results and improvement proposals

New IVEC Examination System (Generalist vs. Specialist)

IVEC has historically operated as an IT verification engineer certification focused on practical work. With this new UX Evaluation Specialist Certification, we aim to cultivate verification engineers capable of assessing the "quality of user experience," in addition to conventional functional verification testing. Moving forward, IVIA will promote the systematization and dissemination of UX evaluation technologies to improve quality across the entire IT industry and establish a development culture that emphasizes user value.
