Earth and Space, Adventures in Living: Kokubunji's 'Koku-Vege' 10th Anniversary Experiential Project Launches

● What is the 'Koku-Vege Project'? 'Koku-Vege' is the nickname for agricultural and livestock products produced by farmers in Kokubunji City for sale. The 'Koku-Vege Project' aims to revitalize the city by promoting the appeal of these products and connecting agriculture with food. Various types of Koku-Vege collected from farmers are delivered to local restaurants, where a wide variety of 'Koku-Vege menus' can be enjoyed at approximately 100 locations.

● The Concept: 'Earth and Space, Adventures in Living' 'Earth'—Preserved Urban Agriculture About 10% of Kokubunji City is farmland. During the Edo period, new field development progressed alongside the construction of the Tamagawa Aqueduct, leading to the birth of new villages. These reclaimed farmlands survived urbanization, not by chance, but because farmers protected them for about 300 years with a strong desire to 'connect the making of delicious vegetables.'

'Space'—A City Where Time Overlaps and You Can Feel the Universe In ancient China, the word 'Chu' (Space) also meant 'time.' Kokubunji City is a place with a history of the Musashi Kokubunji Temple, established by the Emperor Shomu. Today, it is known as the 'birthplace of Japan's space development' due to early pencil rocket experiments, and is symbolized by the asteroid 'kokubunji.'

'Adventures in Living'—Inherited Spirit of Adventure 300 years ago, pioneers moved to this land seeking hope. Their daily lives, tilling the soil and making fire, were a series of challenges that could be called 'adventures.' Today, we aim to provide experiences for children to think for themselves, use their hands, and engage with the world, touching upon the lives once led here.

● Moving to 'Experiencing' Koku-Vege In 2026, marking the 10th anniversary, we shift from 'eating' to 'experiencing' Koku-Vege. The project will roll out experiential content that allows people to enjoy the region's charm with all five senses.

● Events Enjoying Koku-Vege with Chef Shimpei Kurihara (June 29) Popular chef Shimpei Kurihara will conduct a cooking demonstration and tasting using seasonal Koku-Vege. It is a special program where participants can taste the stories of the farmers using ingredients sourced from dedicated producers.

Earth and Space, Adventures in Living (Nov 23 Experiential Event) We plan to hold an experiential program themed around 'Earth' and 'Space (Time)' set in fields and the city. Participants will build a 'village' with play leaders, experience harvesting, fire-making, and enjoy cooking with teachers and students from the Tsuji Culinary Institute. We also plan to feature 'Dagik Earth' and astronomical observations.

Future Outlook Through this project, we aim to disseminate Kokubunji's agriculture, food, history, and culture as an 'experience,' creating new value that connects visitors with the local community.
