Polarstar Energy K.K. (“Polarstar”) is pleased to announce that, through its wholly owned subsidiary 合同会社蓄電所1号, it has been successfully selected to execute a capacity contract in OCCTO’s 2025 Long Term Decarbonised Power Sources Auction (“LTDA”) for its 40MW project in Kagoshima.
Having secured two projects in the second round of OCCTO’s LTDA, Polarstar now has a portfolio of over 120MW and almost 500MWh of projects with long-term, capacity-based revenue contracts, and a growing pipeline of grid access and land rights for further development. The most recently awarded project will use non-lithium technology and a 6-hour duration, supporting Japan’s technology diversification and long-duration energy storage goals.
Project Overview: - Connected Capacity: 40MW - Contracted Capacity: 36.7MW - Storage Capacity: 240MWh - Prefecture: Kagoshima - Technology: Non-Lithium - Bidding Entity: 合同会社蓄電所1号
Polarstar CEO Cameron Gilhome stated, “We are looking forward to our project enabling increased use of renewable energy by reducing solar curtailment in Kyushu and improving local grid stability. We are excited to deliver this and all of our projects through construction and into operations, supporting Japan’s decarbonization goals.”
