The Furniture Museum (Akishima City, Tokyo; Director: Kazuaki Aoki) will hold the Akishima Local Artist Exhibition, "Koshiro Katayama Meet the Hon-Aizome (Natural Indigo Dyeing) Exhibition," from Sunday, May 17 to Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The Akishima Local Artist Exhibition is an annual event hosted by the Furniture Museum as a community-based institution, introducing individuals and their creative works, such as furniture and crafts, based in Akishima City.

This time, the exhibition will feature 30 to 40 works by Koshiro Katayama, an indigo dyeing artist residing in Akishima City. In this exhibition, visitors can enjoy the deep indigo hues of Katayama's works and their soft expressions that gently accompany daily life, in collaboration with the furniture housed in the Furniture Museum. We invite you to experience the beauty of genuine indigo dyeing living in our daily lives.

The Furniture Museum is a foundation established with the aim of collecting and preserving traditional, historical furniture, passing down the tradition of furniture to future generations, and contributing to the creation and research of furniture for a new era. Through our major collections and the Akishima Local Artist Exhibitions, we will continue our museum activities by collecting, preserving, and exhibiting furniture as a cultural heritage created by humanity, from the perspective of "Tradition, Inheritance, and Creation."
