Volkswagen to Hold Special Event 'GTI FAN FEST 2026' Celebrating 50th Anniversary of GTI

Volkswagen Japan (Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Brand Director: Martin Saage) will host a special event, 'GTI FAN FEST 2026,' on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at its headquarters in Toyohashi, Aichi. This event is a gesture of gratitude to the owners who have supported GTI and Volkswagen during this milestone 50th anniversary year of the GTI brand.

Since the first Golf GTI was born in 1976, it revolutionized the industry by combining a compact, practical hatchback with heart-pounding performance. It wasn't just a special sports car; it was a vehicle that allowed people to experience the joy of driving in their daily lives. This new value fascinated many and became the origin of the 'hot hatch' genre.

The GTI philosophy of 'fusing driving fun with daily utility' expanded beyond the Golf to models like the Polo, Lupo, and up!, becoming symbolic of Volkswagen's sports models. Furthermore, the 'GTI Treffen (Meeting),' born from and for GTI fans, has grown into a cult event held for decades at Wörthersee, Austria.

Against this backdrop of fan culture, 'GTI FAN FEST 2026' will look back at GTI's history and value while allowing fans to experience current Volkswagen vehicles. The venue will be the Toyohashi Headquarters of Volkswagen Group Japan, the brand's hub in Japan.

On the day of the event, owners will showcase their beloved vehicles. Additionally, the event will offer special access to facilities usually closed to the public, including the dedicated pier, Technical Service Center, and Parts Depot. This is a rare opportunity to see the entire process from vehicle arrival and shipment to part supply. Visitors can also experience Volkswagen's commitment to quality through introductions to Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) and quality control systems.

Other contents include a special exhibition of historical GTI models, a display of the full Volkswagen lineup and group brand vehicles, and test drives with professional trainers. Stage content, exclusive tours, limited-edition merchandise, and famous food will also be available to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
