PIMT Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sumida-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: So Kaihatsu), promoting the adoption of the mobile unmanned retail robot 'PIMT-0 (Pimuto)' that integrates retail design with AI and robotics, announces the expansion of its operations at Narita International Airport—where practical operations began in April 2026—by increasing the number of robots from one to two starting Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

In conjunction, from July 15 to July 24, a new limited-time project targeting international tourists about to depart Japan will launch, themed 'Promoting the Charm of Tohoku,' featuring the sale of regional products and video campaigns via the robot's digital signage. Through this initiative, PIMT aims to demonstrate growing operational success while showcasing the value of unmanned retail solutions that go beyond commercial profitability to contribute to regional revitalization. Notably, this marks Japan's first attempt (based on company research) to use mobile unmanned vending robots at an international airport—where inbound tourists gather—to promote regional charm and sell local products as part of a regional revitalization effort.

Background and Objective: Designing Japan’s 'Next Trip' from Just 1㎡ Before Departure

Since launching services at Narita International Airport, 'PIMT-0' has achieved impressive results by accurately capturing inbound demand, selling over 500 plush goods per week with just one unit (under 1㎡). The shift to a two-unit operation demonstrates the high economic viability and practicality of unmanned robot vending services within airport environments.

The newly added robot will be deployed from July 15 to 24 in a special pop-up store dedicated to showcasing 'Tohoku’s charm.' In the post-security international departure area—often the final point of a traveler’s journey—PIMT-0 will sell goods and specialty sandwich bread filled with Tohoku’s unique appeal. Simultaneously, compelling videos highlighting Tohoku’s scenic tourism and cultural heritage will be broadcast via the robot’s connected digital signage.

By offering departing international tourists the realization that 'Japan holds deeper, undiscovered charms,' PIMT aims to stimulate repeat visitation and drive future tourism flows to the Tohoku region—a form of Creating Shared Value (CSV).

Building on the operational expansion at Narita International Airport and the proven success of this regional revitalization use case, PIMT will actively expand the deployment of 'PIMT-0' across Japan and globally. Leveraging our strengths in communication design and user experience, we aim to directly contribute to regional revitalization and local economic activation in diverse locations and facilities.
