A new collaboration will extend Visa's global payment network to one of the leading AI platforms, enabling seamless and secure transactions across agent-supported commerce environments and supporting a wide range of AI-driven use cases.
June 10, 2026, San Francisco, USA — Visa today announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI. This collaboration will enable secure Visa payments within agent-based commerce, allowing for seamless and reliable transactions across experiences on OpenAI. The announcement was made at the Visa Payments Forum held in San Francisco. Through this partnership, Visa will provide its global network, authentication capabilities, and security infrastructure to support agent-based commerce experiences, enabling consumers and businesses to transact with confidence.
This partnership is part of Visa's Intelligent Commerce vision, aimed at extending secure payment capabilities into new digital environments. Future initiatives will explore developer experiences powered by Codex and more automated conversational workflows for enterprise use cases, as AI continues to evolve as a critical interface in digital interactions.
As part of the partnership, Visa's payment functionality will be integrated into OpenAI's experiences, enabling developers and merchants to seamlessly accept Visa payments initiated by agents. Together with OpenAI, Visa will provide the network, tokenization, and risk management capabilities that support trusted and secure transactions.
Transactions will be executed within clearly defined user permissions, policies, and controls, including spending limits, merchant categories, and authorization requirements. Transactions will use tokenized Visa credentials with real-time authorization and fraud monitoring, helping maintain high security and consumer protection standards in new AI-enabled payment experiences.
Jack Forestell, Visa's Chief Product and Strategy Officer, said:
"AI will transform commerce more profoundly than the internet or mobile technology ever did. As AI agents become active participants in the economy, Visa's role is to ensure every transaction is trustworthy, secure, and seamless. That is the infrastructure we are building with partners like OpenAI."
Marco Mahrus, Head of Commerce Partnerships at OpenAI, said:
"Commerce is happening in more places and ways than ever before, and agents will play an increasingly vital role in helping complete financial tasks—from purchases and payments to more complex transactions. Through integration with Visa Intelligent Commerce, we are building the infrastructure for agent-led transactions that are safe, transparent, and under user control. This allows people to achieve more with AI agents while feeling confident that payments are processed securely and reliably."
