San Francisco, California, June 10, 2026 — Visa today announced new AI, stablecoin, and token capabilities to help clients enable next-generation commerce at the Visa Payments Forum 2026. These innovations reflect a simple objective: to ensure trust, security, and control are maintained for faster, automated, and more sophisticated commerce experiences.

During the keynote address, Jack Forestell, Visa's Chief Product and Strategy Officer, explained how two foundational shifts—artificial intelligence and stablecoins—are transforming both the front end and back end of money movement, and how Visa is helping clients participate.

Forestell commented, "AI is transforming the front end of commerce. Stablecoins are re-architecting the back end. Visa's role is to ensure that it works safely, reliably, and on a global scale for all ecosystem participants."

Advancing and Building the Front End of AI-Driven Commerce

Visa explained how AI is changing how transactions are initiated, authorized, and trusted. Visa also demonstrated how new commerce experiences are being designed, developed, and delivered at an accelerated pace, particularly as AI agents increasingly act on behalf of consumers and businesses.

Visa Intelligent Commerce is Visa's platform for agentic commerce, providing the trust, control, and connectivity necessary for AI agents to securely discover, initiate, and complete transactions.

To support this shift, Visa is working across the ecosystem, partnering with major AI platforms, delivering new merchant capabilities, and building infrastructure to ensure that agent-initiated transactions are transparent and trusted. This includes:

- Agent Scoring: Built with New Generation, this enables merchants to evaluate their site's readiness for agentic commerce. Specifically, it assesses whether an AI agent can navigate the merchant's site, understand the content, and complete a task. - Agentic Directory: Merchants need to know if the agents transacting on their site are trustworthy, and agents need the confidence that they are interacting with legitimate merchants. The Agentic Directory will list agents and merchants that Visa has verified as legitimate participants in agentic commerce. - Partnership with OpenAI: A strategic partnership with OpenAI will enable secure Visa payments in agentic commerce, facilitating seamless and trusted payments across OpenAI experiences. Through this partnership, Visa will provide its global network, authentication capabilities, and security infrastructure to support agentic commerce experiences. This ensures that consumers and businesses can interact and transact with confidence. - Large Transaction Model: An AI model trained on billions of transaction data points to enhance fraud detection while simultaneously improving authorization performance and reducing false declines. This addresses a trade-off that has challenged the industry for years.

Visa also demonstrated early-stage concepts by Crypto Labs and its developer team. This included a proof-of-concept for a command-line interface where an AI agent pays for digital services directly on a terminal using Visa's tokenized credentials.

Forestell stated, "We believe that much of future creation and commerce will be driven by developers utilizing AI tools. We are working with the industry to ensure that cards remain the optimal payment method at the command line."

Advancing Tokens for AI-Driven Commerce

Visa announced significant enhancements to its tokens, aiming to bring more data, context, and trust to credentials used in digital commerce.

Currently, tokens feature sophisticated, secure data sets designed for digital payments. As commerce expands to new channels and agents, Visa is enhancing the data to provide detailed information about the type of transaction, where it is used, and who is using it.

Another crucial development is the token assurance signal. Token usage will be evaluated throughout its lifecycle. Based on information at issuance and behavioral history, a signal indicating the trust behind each transaction will be generated.

With these enhancements, issuers will gain stronger signals for authorization decisions, reducing false declines for merchants and improving consumer convenience.

These developments are designed for AI-driven commerce, embedding identity, permissions, and behavioral signals more deeply into credentials. This allows trust to function alongside the transaction across devices, channels, and use cases, including those initiated autonomously by AI agents.

Advancing the Back End of Money Movement with Stablecoins

Visa also shared progress on advancing payments and value transfer through stablecoins and blockchain-based infrastructure.

- Tokenized Deposits: Visa plans to build a technology layer that allows banks to transform traditional deposits into programmable, always-on digital money. This enables banks to achieve the speed and flexibility of stablecoins while maintaining funds on their balance sheets. - Stablecoin Payments: Visa is expanding its stablecoin payment pilots across multiple regions, blockchains, and currencies. Since launching the pilot in early 2025, Visa has moved billions of dollars in stablecoins on VisaNet, reaching an annual run rate of approximately $7 billion as of March 2026. Furthermore, issuing banks have already...
