Futomaki Sushi and Onigiri Sandwich: Experience the Charm of Nori with Producers in Kofu City on July 29 (Wed) [Yamanashi, Nagano]

Palsystem Co-op Yamanashi Nagano (Headquarters: Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture; Chairperson: Shigeko Furuya) will host an event on Wednesday, July 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Pyua Sogo in Kofu City. The event will feature guest instructors from Miegyoren Sales Co., Ltd. (Ise City, Mie Prefecture; President and CEO: Keita Hamaguchi), a seaweed processing and sales company, to share the journey of nori—from harvest and processing to its nutritional benefits and culinary appeal. Participants will experience tasting nori by grade and making futomaki sushi and onigiri sandwiches, fully enjoying the charm of this beloved ingredient.

The Journey from Sea to Table

Miegyoren Sales Co., Ltd. processes and sells various seaweed products, including Mie Prefecture’s black nori, shipped nationwide as 'Ise Nori,' and locally special Aosa seaweed. A company staff member will explain the harvesting process, manufacturing steps, and nutritional value, highlighting the appeal of nori as a staple rice accompaniment.

Participants will also experience a rare opportunity to taste different grades of nori, appreciating the ingredient’s authentic flavor and rich aroma.

After learning about nori’s appeal, participants will cook futomaki sushi and onigiri sandwiches together. The futomaki will feature two combinations: pork with vegetables, and fish sausage with cheese. The onigiri sandwiches will be filled with tuna mayonnaise and cucumber, offering a balanced and convenient lunch. Attendees will enjoy creating and sharing food, fostering connections with fellow participants.

Supported by Member Volunteers 'Center Supporters'

The cooking activities will be supported by 'Ichinomiya Center Supporters,' a group of volunteer members who plan and operate events at the Ichinomiya distribution center. They will also provide carefully selected miso soup and desserts, allowing participants to savor nori as a star ingredient, not just a side dish.

Smiling with Every Bite: 'Onigiri Good' Campaign

Since April 2026, the Palsystem Group has launched the 'Onigiri Good' campaign, encouraging people to eat onigiri to boost rice consumption and improve Japan’s domestic food self-sufficiency rate. Actions such as attending onigiri-related events or posting on social media are counted toward a goal: upon reaching 10,000 actions, 1 ton of directly sourced rice will be donated to children’s cafeterias across 12 prefectures in the group’s service area.

This event aims to bring smiles through shared meals of onigiri sandwiches and futomaki, fostering warmth through handmade food while promoting the use of directly sourced rice and social contribution.
