## Adding Two New Colors to the Aeron Chair

Since its debut in 1994, designed by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick, the Herman Miller Aeron Chair has established the standard for ergonomic seating. Known for its iconic, long-lasting design, the Aeron Chair has now added two new colors to its lineup.

Alongside advancements in material development and performance, the chair has undergone further updates backed by continuous research and sustainability efforts.

### New Color Palette

Since the remastered model was introduced in 2016, the Aeron Chair's color palette has focused on neutral tones—such as Onyx, Graphite, Carbon, and Mineral—designed to harmonize with diverse spaces. The newly introduced Jasper and Nightfall are also inspired by the natural world.

- **Jasper**: An olive green that evokes a sense of nature. It reflects the trend of biophilic design with its neutral tones.
- **Nightfall**: A sophisticated, deep midnight blue. Used in other Herman Miller products, it enhances visual cohesion across the entire space.

When originally launched, the Aeron Chair temporarily offered multiple jewel-tone colors. However, due to limitations in material development and structural technology at the time, colors could only be applied to the pellicle suspension, creating a clear contrast between the neutral-colored frame and the colorful seat/backrest. This new color expansion is achieved through material innovation that allows the pellicle and the entire frame to be finished in a unified color, reducing visual noise while enhancing the chair's presence in a space.

Joseph White, Design Strategy Director at MillerKnoll, stated: "Our research indicates that strategic use of color can significantly impact workplace engagement and individual productivity. Saturated colors in a cohesive space can even affect breathing, blood pressure, and body temperature. Design, color, and furniture selection are critical factors for individuals and organizations to improve and differentiate their environments."

### Sustainability Commitment

Sustainability and innovation remain at the core of the Aeron Chair's design. In 2021, the company first announced products incorporating materials diverted from oceans and landfills, with the Aeron Chair being the first to adopt these materials. As of 2026, the volume of plastic reused has more than doubled since the June 2023 report, reaching over 660 tons (equivalent to approximately 79 million plastic bottles).

Furthermore, the frame structure now incorporates new polymers, resins, and nylon materials, utilizing post-industrial recycled materials and bio-based nylon to drive global carbon footprint reduction.

Through the combination of generative design and advanced engineering, the chair’s aluminum base has been optimized to use less material, resulting in a weight reduction of 1.85 pounds (approx. 0.84kg) compared to previous models. These changes are expected to reduce the average embodied carbon (CO₂ emitted during manufacturing) of the Aeron Chair by 12% globally, as part of Herman Miller's product decarbonization strategy. Since 2022, the introduction of low-carbon materials has already achieved a reduction of over 7,000 tons of CO₂.
