Highly Anticipated! "Dufy Exhibition" to be Held in April 2027

The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will host the "Dufy Exhibition" from Saturday, April 24, 2027, to Sunday, August 22, 2027. A 6-meter masterpiece! The original artwork of the fresco "The Fairy Electricity," created for the Paris Exposition, is coming to Japan! Raoul Dufy (1877–1953) is a representative 20th-century French painter known for his "colors and light." He left behind numerous works depicting serene and pleasant subjects such as the sea, ships, music, wheat fields, and pastoral landscapes with vibrant colors. His creative activities extended beyond canvas to textiles, costume design, ceramics, tapestries, and furniture, making him widely known as a versatile artist. This exhibition commemorates Dufy's 150th birth anniversary, presenting his entire oeuvre, primarily focusing on numerous works held by the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris. Among them, the precious 1/10 scale painting (6 meters wide), which is the original artwork for the colossal fresco "The Fairy Electricity" created for the 1937 Paris World's Fair, is a must-see. In the spring of 2027, vibrant and bright colors will spread across Ueno, Tokyo. The Fairy Electricity "The Fairy Electricity" is a colossal fresco, 60 meters wide, created for the "Pavilion of Electricity and Light" at the 1937 Paris World's Fair. It is currently installed in a dedicated exhibition room at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, creating a magnificent space that envelops visitors.
