SoftBank Corp. will begin airing a new TV commercial, "Shiratoke Family Overseas Trip" (15 seconds), for its new "Overseas Data Unlimited" service, which allows users to enjoy unlimited data communication in over 200 designated countries and regions*1 without additional charges, nationwide starting July 3, 2026 (Fri). The commercial features members of the Shiratoke family (Aya Ueto, Kanako Higuchi, and Father Dog) along with child actress Yuno Nagao.

The new TV commercial tells a comedic story of the Shiratoke family's frantic situation on a plane heading overseas when Aya (Ueto) realizes they forgot to rent a portable Wi-Fi device. Father Dog, mistakenly believing he won't be able to use the internet at their destination, quickly dons a parachute and jumps out of the plane. Yuno (Nagao), rushing after him, calls out, "Father Dog's plan lets you use data overseas with no extra charge!" This scene humorously conveys the peace of mind that comes with "Overseas Data Unlimited," allowing users to use data services as usual even when abroad.

In conjunction with the TV commercial's release, a new web commercial, "Shiratoke Family Teleporting Flamenco" (15 seconds), will also be available. This commercial depicts Aya and the family taking commemorative photos as if they were teleporting, set against a backdrop of flamenco music and world-famous tourist attractions. An interview and making-of video, featuring behind-the-scenes footage and the cast discussing their dream summer vacation destinations and overseas travel memories, will be released on the official SoftBank YouTube channel starting at 0:00 on July 3 (Fri).

New Commercial Story

"Shiratoke Family Overseas Trip" (15 seconds)

Inside a plane bound for overseas, decorated with Father Dog's face, Yuno exclaims, "First time overseas!" Her mother asks Aya, "Did you rent the portable Wi-Fi for when we get there?" "Ah! I didn't rent it!" Aya panics, and her mother and others gasp in surprise. Father Dog's headphones fly off in shock. He shouts, "I'll go rent it!" and jumps out of the plane with a parachute. Yuno, chasing after him in a panic, shouts, "Father Dog's plan lets you use data overseas with no extra charge!" Father Dog, hearing her voice in mid-air, replies, "Tell me sooner!" as his parachute opens. The scene transitions to a visual of the plane with Father Dog's face, accompanied by the narration, "Overseas Data Unlimited begins," and concludes with Father Dog's line, "SoftBank, connecting you more."

"Shiratoke Family Teleporting Flamenco" (15 seconds)

Aya, her mother, and her older brother (Dante Carver) are taking a commemorative photo in front of the Sagrada Familia in Spain. A local woman holding a smartphone says, "I'll take it!" as a flamenco tune begins. Aya raises her hands high above her head like a flamenco dancer and claps them sharply. The next moment, the background changes to Niagara Falls in Canada. As the lyrics "SoftBank's eligible plans offer unlimited overseas data with no extra charge!" play, Aya claps her hands, and various world landscapes flash by. As the tempo of the clapping quickens, the backgrounds change rapidly. Finally, they return to the Sagrada Familia, strike a pose, and her older brother exclaims, "Yeah!" directly to the camera.

The scene then shifts to the Shiratoke family's living room, where Father Dog is watching a video sent by Aya saying, "Arrived in Spain." He murmurs a bit sadly, "What is this video?" ending the scene.

Filming Episodes

◇A set realistically recreating an airplane cabin and charming costumes

The filming took place on a set that partially recreated an economy class airplane cabin. Extras were placed as passengers, all wearing seatbelts, creating a highly immersive atmosphere as if on a real flight. The cast members arrived one after another. Yuno, with sunglasses perched on her head, wore a cute yellow overall and an orange coat. Aya commented, "You look good in anything!" and the two of them happily walked to their seats, smiling.

◇Realistic acting and teamwork to depict a desperate pinch

Following Yuno's excited "I'm looking forward to my first trip overseas!" Aya and Higuchi's exchange, "Did you rent the Wi-Fi for when we get there?" "Ah! I didn't rent it!" instantly froze the atmosphere. The previously cheerful mood shifted to one of tension, which the three actors portrayed with perfect teamwork and acting skills.

◇Nagao's successful delivery of long lines despite strong winds

In the scene where Yuno calls out to Father Dog, who has dived from the plane, "Father Dog's plan lets you use data overseas with no extra charge!" she faced the challenging task of shouting long lines while being buffeted by strong winds. During the test with the wind machine, Higuchi and Ueto, saying "It's cold!" and "Here comes the cold!" gently supported Nagao, who was directly in front of the wind. When the wind machine roared to life, Nagao instinctively closed her eyes against the force. When the cut was called, she brushed her disheveled hair and exclaimed, "That was intense!" Nevertheless, for the actual take, she focused on her performance, kept her eyes open, and delivered the long lines perfectly. Ueto and Higuchi applauded her efforts in overcoming the difficult conditions to achieve the best shot.

◇Ueto's unexpected reaction to the challenging flamenco hand claps...!?

Before filming the "Shiratoke Family Teleporting Flamenco" commercial, Aya practiced the hand claps while listening to the music. She was surprised by the unexpected difficulty, especially when the tempo sped up, exclaiming, "What is this?!" Higuchi, watching beside her, murmured, "This is difficult."

During the first take, Aya suddenly burst into laughter, her expression momentarily returning to its natural state. Dante immediately pointed out, "Hey, you were laughing a bit at the end." Aya then sheepishly grinned and laughed, "Ahahaha!"

Interviews with Aya Ueto, Kanako Higuchi, and Yuno Nagao

-- Please tell us about your impressions of today's TV commercial shoot.

[Ueto]: This made me want to go on a trip with these three. It would definitely be fun.

[Nagao]: I've filmed with the Shiratoke family in various places like shops and forests before, but I love airplanes, so it was really fun to film on a plane for the first time.

[Higuchi]: I've had two overseas location shoots for SoftBank commercials, in Italy and New York, and this reminded me of those times.

[Ueto]: I want to go together again.

[Nagao]: I want to go.

[Higuchi]: It's been a while since my last overseas shoot, so I feel like going abroad again soon.

-- This commercial conveys that you can use data overseas without extra charges. Could you share any memorable overseas travel episodes?

[Ueto]: When I went to Taiwan for a project themed around baths, the hot water there was incredibly silky, probably due to strong minerals. Both Abe Hiroshi and I got bath fatigue and worked in a daze the next day. Taiwan's baths were something else.

[Nagao]: When I went to Vietnam, I rode a cyclo.

[Ueto]: What's a cyclo?

[Nagao]: It's a vehicle where a person in front pedals like a bicycle, and a passenger sits behind.

[Higuchi]: Like a rickshaw?

[Nagao]: Yes. The cyclo driver was very kind and spoke a little Japanese. He told me, "This is a very beautiful place called [unintelligible word], so please visit if you have time." But unfortunately, I couldn't understand the most important part, [unintelligible word], because it was in Vietnamese. Looking back now, though, it's a great memory.

[Higuchi]: When I was young, I appeared in a challenging documentary about mountain climbing in the Canadian Rockies. While camping halfway up the mountain, something landed on my tent one night while I was sleeping.

[Ueto]: Scary, scary.

[Higuchi]: I don't know if it was an animal, but it definitely landed on it. They warned us to be careful of bears, but if it had been a bear, just landing on it wouldn't have been the end of it. I still can't forget the sensation of a small animal or something landing on the tent.

[Ueto]: Did you feel like screaming "Heee!"?

[Higuchi]: I was frozen solid. I stayed awake in a seiza position until morning. I wish I had captured it on camera.

[Ueto]: It would have been nice if you had recorded it on camera.

[Higuchi]: That's a memory I truly can't forget. It's a story about something definitely landing on the tent.

-- Finally, the scene where Father Dog says, "Tell me sooner!" is memorable. Could you share any experiences where you thought, "You should have told me sooner!" or "I wish I had known earlier!"?

[Nagao]: The other day, when I went to Osaka, I really wanted to eat takoyaki before returning to Tokyo, but I was in such a hurry due to lack of time that a man next to me said, "You're really giving it your all." I wondered what "hisshi no patchi" meant and looked it up on the Shinkansen. I understood "hisshi" (desperate), but not the meaning of "patchi." It turns out it means something like "to do your best." I was surprised, thinking, "What? 'Do your best' is 'patchi'!" It's kind of cute, so I want to use it in various situations. I learned something, but I wish I had known "hisshi no patchi" earlier.

[Higuchi]: Is that an Osaka dialect?

[Nagao]: Yes, it's an Osaka dialect.

[Higuchi]: Oh, I've never heard that before.

[Ueto]: You can use it from now on.

[Nagao]: I really want to say, "Hisshi no patchi ya na" at school.

[Higuchi]: It sounds nice.

[Ueto]: It's cute.

-- What would you like to do this summer?

[Ueto]: Every summer, several families gather, and we go on a big trip. Since there are many children, we always send a giant watermelon from our house and have a watermelon-splitting event. Afterward, the time we spend eating the watermelon on the spot together feels like "summer!" and is incredibly happy. We enjoy eating it together, thinking, "It's okay to get messy."

[Nagao]: Where do you do the watermelon splitting?

[Ueto]: At the beach or on the grass at our travel destination.

[Nagao]: That sounds nice. It would be even more delicious with salt. Sprinkle salt, munch, sprinkle salt, munch.

[Higuchi]: Salt is important, very important.

[Ueto]: Salty and delicious.

[Nagao]: It's delicious, isn't it.

[Higuchi]: I was born in Niigata Prefecture, but the fireworks in Nagaoka City are amazing. They are launched in rapid succession, so much so that you don't know when to breathe, and the fireworks themselves are huge. I saw them for the first time in the year of the earthquake, and there was a memorial fireworks display that made everyone cry. The beauty, the grandeur, and the song "Jupiter" playing along with the fireworks made me sob. It was so magnificent that I went again the following year. You absolutely must see the Nagaoka fireworks. I highly recommend them.

-- Summer vacation is just around the corner. Where do you want to go and what do you want to do during your summer break?

[Nagao]: I plan to go on a treasure hunt with my family. At a facility in Yamanashi, we search for glowing stones and real gems in water and desert areas.

[Higuchi]: Are the stones and gems planted there?

[Nagao]: Yes. I want to do a lot of that. Searching like "shashashaa, shashashaa." But I don't know if I'll find them right away.

[Ueto]: Is that an event held in Yamanashi during the summer?

[Nagao]: I think it's held all year round.

[Ueto]: Sounds fun.

[Higuchi]: That's nice. If you find any, bring them to us.

[Ueto]: Yes, bring them.

[Nagao]: Yes, I'll bring them!
