Commenced Operation of an Approx. 2MW / 4MWh Grid-Scale Battery Energy Storage System in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture

The Sherpa Group announces that the grid-scale battery energy storage system "Ishikawa Prefecture Kaga City Bunkocho Battery Energy Storage System" (hereinafter "this BESS"), located in Bunkocho, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, was connected to the grid and commenced operations on April 1, 2026. This is the first large-scale BESS investment project for the group.

With the cooperation of the aggregator, Girasol Energy Inc., this BESS is equipped with an AC output of 2MW and a DC capacity of 4MWh, and is expected to contribute to the stabilization of the power grid in the Hokuriku Electric Power Company area.

## Background and Significance

As part of its promotion of sustainable energy and infrastructure investments, the Sherpa Group has aimed to make a full-scale entry into the renewable energy sector. This project is positioned as its first undertaking and demonstrates the importance of energy storage technology in Japan's energy transition.

With the massive introduction of renewable energy, the volatility of the power grid is increasing, making the securing of "balancing capacity" (*1) a more critical issue than ever before. Through this BESS, we plan to provide balancing capacity via the supply and demand adjustment market, promoting both the further spread of renewable energy and a stable power grid.
