【Kyoto's Largest】14 Sake Breweries and 14 Craft Breweries Unite

Inaugural 'Kome to Mugi Festival in Kyoto 2026'

~Kyoto's major alcohol event, absent since the pandemic, returns with a new festival spotlighting sake and craft beer at Umekoji Park~

The Kome to Mugi Festival Executive Committee (Kyoto City) will hold the first-ever 'Kome to Mugi Festival in Kyoto 2026' on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Shichijo Gate Plaza of Umekoji Park.

This event is Kyoto’s largest food and drink festival, featuring 14 sake breweries, 14 craft breweries, and 10 popular local food vendors.

Expected attendance: 3,000–4,000 people. Breweries, craft brewers, and Kyoto-based restaurants from across Japan will gather for this celebration.

While sake and craft beer events are held nationwide, large-scale festivals treating both as equal main attractions are extremely rare. This festival creates a new format where fans, brewers, and cultures of both beverages intersect.

Since the Heian Sake Festival in 2019, Kyoto has lacked large-scale events centered on sake and craft beer, especially after the pandemic.

The 'Kome to Mugi Festival' marks the revival of such events, showcasing Kyoto’s vibrant drinking and culinary culture after this long hiatus.

The venue will bring together 14 distinctive sake breweries and 14 craft breweries from across Japan. Additionally, 10 popular food vendors from Kyoto and surrounding areas will participate, offering a three-dimensional dining experience where sake, craft beer, and cuisine share the spotlight.

Beer lovers will discover sake, and sake enthusiasts will explore craft beer. Bridging genre boundaries to foster new discoveries and interactions is a key highlight of this festival.

【Planning & Operation】Craft Beer and Sake Shop Asakura

Operates 'Sake BAR Asakura,' a long-standing sake bar in Kyoto with over 20 years of history, and 'Kakuuchi Asakura,' a retail and counter-drinking shop.

Under the concept of 'Making sake more accessible and more enjoyable,' the shop has consistently promoted the appeal of sake and craft beer. Prioritizing experiences like 'delicious,' 'fun,' and 'I want to drink again' over technical knowledge or trivia, it has earned widespread popularity among locals and tourists alike.

The 'Kome to Mugi Festival' is a project made possible only by this shop, thanks to its two decades of experience in the sake culture scene and early engagement with craft beer, building strong networks with brewers and drinkers of both beverages.

'Let sake lovers discover craft beer.' 'Let craft beer fans discover sake.'

By creating a space for cross-genre interaction, the festival aims to rediscover the culture of enjoying alcohol itself, launching a new festival model from Kyoto.
