Novotel Nara Acquires International Environmental Certification 'Green Key'

Novotel Nara (Location: Nara City, Nara Prefecture) acquired 'Green Key,' an international environmental certification, in March 2026.

Green Key is a globally recognized eco-label awarded to accommodations committed to environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. Operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), headquartered in Denmark, the certification is granted through a rigorous third-party assessment after facilities voluntarily apply.

Currently, over 8,500 hotels and related facilities in more than 90 countries have obtained the certification, highly regarded as an international standard in the tourism and hospitality industry for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations. The certification process comprehensively evaluates various initiatives, including environmental management, energy conservation, waste management, and water resource conservation.

Through this certification, Novotel Nara will contribute to reducing environmental impact and realizing a sustainable society, while promoting hotel operations where guests can stay with peace of mind.

■ Introduction of Sahogawa River Cleanup Activities

As part of its environmental protection efforts, Novotel Nara participates in the 'OCEAN PROGRAM,' a marine environmental conservation program jointly developed by the NOVOTEL brand and the global environmental organization WWF.

As part of this program, the hotel conducts monthly cleanup activities along the Sahogawa River near the hotel. Novotel Nara staff carefully collect garbage and debris along the river, striving to preserve local water quality and protect the ecosystem.

Through daily cleanup activities, we realize the importance of environmental conservation in collaboration with the local community and promote initiatives for sustainable tourism. We also introduce this activity to our guests and encourage their participation in environmental protection.
