Wellness Dining Co., Ltd. conducted an awareness survey titled "World Food Tournament" among 300 men and women aged 25-45 nationwide to explore Japanese people's values regarding food. The results showed that 44.7% of respondents are interested in various world cuisines. When asked about their favorite foreign cuisines, Chinese ranked first, followed by Italian and Korean. For specific favorite foreign dishes, pasta took first place, followed by pizza and Mapo Tofu. Furthermore, when asked which dish they would select to represent Japan in a hypothetical "World Food Tournament", sushi won overwhelmingly with 45.0% of the vote. Sukiyaki (13.0%), onigiri (12.3%), and curry rice (12.3%) followed, showing that familiar home-style menus represent Japanese food.
