Zoff, an eyewear brand operated by Intermestic Inc., has partnered with Akashi School Uniform Company to begin selling Japan's first school-designated sunglasses at Kobun Gakuen Girls' High School in Osaka, effective April 27, 2026. This initiative aims to protect students' eyes from intense sunlight and UV rays during school life.

Zoff identifies the lack of adequate UV protection for children as a significant social issue. By positioning sunglasses as part of the school uniform, the company aims to transform them from a 'special item' into a 'health habit.'

Kobun Gakuen decided to adopt these sunglasses based on its philosophy of prioritizing student well-being. The school's teachers selected six types of frames and smoky gray lenses with 20% density, which are suitable for daily student life and allow facial expressions to be clearly visible. These sunglasses are permitted during commutes and outdoor activities.

This project was made possible with the support of Akashi School Uniform Company, which views uniforms as vital educational tools and has been introducing functional and eco-friendly materials to schools.

To ensure a smooth purchasing experience, a dedicated online page for the school has been established, allowing parents to buy the designated models easily. The system also accommodates prescription lenses for students who already wear glasses. Maintenance services, including adjustments and cleaning, are available at Zoff stores nationwide. Zoff is currently conducting trials at over a dozen other schools to verify appropriate implementation methods for school life, aiming for a future where sunglasses are a natural part of the school environment.
