(Headquarters: Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture; President and CEO: Michiro Takekawa) announces the launch of the fourth edition of its trading card series "Map Design GALLERY CARD/Inhabited Remote Islands," designed around maps and produced by its stationery and lifestyle brand "Map Design GALLERY." The new release will be available starting noon on July 3 (Fri), 2026, via the Map Design GALLERY online store, with in-store sales beginning the same day.

With this fourth release, the series now covers all 304 inhabited remote islands across Japan. Additionally, a limited first-run special set including a dedicated card file capable of storing all 304 cards will be available, expanding the enjoyment of collecting.

A Trading Card Like No Other—Spark Curiosity About Japan's Remote Islands

The "Map Design GALLERY CARD/Inhabited Remote Islands" series features trading cards dedicated to Japan's inhabited remote islands. Since the first release in July 2025, the series has received widespread acclaim from map enthusiasts, travel lovers, and others, surpassing cumulative sales of 180,000 units by the end of May 2026.

Each card's front displays basic information such as the island's name, map, population, and area, along with visual details like roads and building layouts based on Zenrin's proprietary mapping data—offering a view that evokes island life just by looking. The back features a silhouette highlighting unique characteristics of each island, emphasizing its individuality. By comparing the cards, users can enjoy imagining the distinct lifestyles and features of each island. The fourth edition adds 77 new islands, completing the full collection of 304.

The Inhabited Remote Islands card series has drawn enthusiastic responses from diverse audiences, including map and travel enthusiasts, people with personal ties to remote islands, and educators considering its use in teaching. We are delighted that with this fourth release, we have successfully launched the full planned collection of all 304 inhabited islands.

The fourth edition includes 77 new cards packed with the charm of remote islands. We hope this will inspire many to aim for a complete collection of all 304 islands.

When I first saw the card showing the island's topography and contour lines, I was intrigued by how flat and lacking in elevation it appeared. Research revealed it is known as "the island of cattle," with a thriving livestock industry and approximately 3,000 head of cattle—far outnumbering the human population. I also learned that sea turtles come ashore here to lay eggs. This made me curious about the lives of people living on this island, surrounded by rich nature including beautiful seas. Though I've never been to Okinawa Prefecture, this island has become a must-visit destination for me.
