CALMA BY ZARA — MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2026

During Milan Design Week from April 21 to 26, Zara will present an immersive installation called "Calma." Set within a Neoclassical building, this installation offers a sensory experience that provides peace while engaging the senses. As the city of Milan transforms into a place of constant energy and stimulation, Calma becomes a quiet sanctuary away from the city's bustle. Located in Sempione Park, the city's largest park, the 19th-century architecture enhances its serene environment.

Presented at Palazzina Appiani, this installation is a contemporary reinterpretation of a retreat based on the spatial and social structures of ancient Roman baths (thermae). Rather than focusing on visual performance, it consists of a series of spaces designed to calm perception and realign consciousness.

The experience flows through a series of spaces including the entrance, corridors, the central hall, and an outdoor loggia. Visitors pass through spaces delicately orchestrated with light, reflections, and sound. Mirrored arches create an expansion of the architecture while blurring its outlines. Brushed metal surfaces capture and softly diffuse light. Furthermore, an acoustic layer combining modern arrangements of classic Italian music and ambient sounds envelops guests in a state of serene and continuous atmosphere.

The building was originally designed for Napoleon, his family, and the court, conceived as a private space separate from public noise. The architecture is composed of orderly axes and opens onto the surrounding park. Realized in partnership with the renowned design studio Crosby Studios, the installation "Calma" brings moments of rest and introspection.
