We support the 'April Dream' project, which aims to make April 1st a day to share dreams. This press release is the dream of 'Yakuso Terakoya.'

April 1, 2026.

We, 'Yakuso Terakoya,' declare a dream we intend to fulfill:

'To increase the number of people in every region who live with medicinal herbs and nature, enjoy them, and pass on that knowledge.'

In the modern age, in exchange for convenience, it has become easy to lose touch with the voice of our own bodies and our connection to nature.

Amidst the busyness and stress, many people feel they 'don't know how to restore balance.'

Against this backdrop, since 2015, we have been operating 'Yakuso Terakoya' as a place of learning to regain the 'power to restore oneself' through familiar wild grasses and medicinal herbs. With the cooperation of Mr. Tadanori Yano of the NPO Okusuri Kenkyukai (Medicine Research Association) based in Oita Prefecture, we have continued to hold training courses for Medicinal Herb Cooking Meisters.

Wild grasses become a feast.

The fruit trees and woods in the Satoyama (the border zone between mountain foothills and arable land) are the result of environmental creation passed down by our ancestors to their descendants over many years. They protect our food and lives today.

By gathering herbs in the Satoyama and utilizing fields that have been abandoned, we want to learn, experience, practice, and pass on the wisdom of living while enjoying it together as people who are creating the future.

When mugwort and chickweed growing in the field change from being just 'weeds' into something that connects to our daily food and self-care, that small realization changes our lives themselves.

■ Our Dream

What we aim for is not merely the provision of knowledge.

It is a society where more people live in harmony with nature, enjoying the joy of nurturing plants and restoring their own minds and bodies while traveling between cities and the Satoyama. We provide learning opportunities that foster time for experience, study, and enjoyment for members who utilize shared old folk houses and abandoned farmland as fieldwork sites, even for those who are single.

・Possessing the wisdom of food that restores oneself, traditional Japanese food, fermented food, and natural living, even in the midst of a busy city life.
・Touching nature, even if only on weekends, to regain one's senses.
・Creating a life where one can make choices for oneself without depending on others.
・Laughing together in the joy and happiness of daily life by feeling the four seasons through rice and vegetable cultivation.

We believe that as these 'small acts of independence' spread, society as a whole will become more resilient and sustainable.

The fieldwork site is in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture.

As a model district for the revitalization of intermediate rural areas that retain the original landscape of the Satoyama, we will share our 13 years of experience and conduct online activities for those who are starting a two-base lifestyle.

■ In closing
The power to manage 'pre-illness' (mibyo) is not something special; it exists within our daily lives. And it is a power that everyone originally possessed.

April 1, 2026. Starting from this day, we envision a future where the wisdom of food and medicinal herbs takes root in our lives once again.
