Gakutensoku member Shuji Okuda's history program "Walking Outside the Textbook! Gakutensoku Okuda's History Chat" will become a regular program on BS Yoshimoto. The commemorative first regular broadcast will air on Saturday, July 4th, starting at 11:30 PM.
First Episode Theme: "The Nanboku-cho Period is Amazing!"
This program is a history variety show where Okuda entertainingly discusses history while visiting places associated with great figures, such as bronze statues and historical sites across the country.
As Okuda himself says, "I'm just an amateur history enthusiast talking, so please do your own research for accuracy," he re-examines historical events from an original perspective, incorporating his own thoughts and speculations. A special two-part program aired in April this year received a strong response, leading to this long-awaited regular series.
This time's theme is "The Nanboku-cho Period is Amazing!" The Nanboku-cho period, which is often covered briefly in school lessons, will be explored in depth. The recording took place at the Imperial Palace Outer Garden in Tokyo. In front of a statue of Masashige Kusunoki, a loyal general active from the late Kamakura period through the Nanboku-cho period, Okuda will deliver a passionate talk.
The Mystery of "A Period with Two Emperors for About 60 Years"
The Nanboku-cho period, where two imperial courts existed side-by-side for about 60 years, with two emperors simultaneously, was an unprecedented era. Okuda describes the intense conflict, saying, "It's not just a matter of Adidas versus Puma," and questions why such a fierce rivalry arose.
Okuda breaks down the Nanboku-cho period into four themes, stating, "Because it's complicated, I'll divide it into smaller parts." As you listen to Okuda's "chat," which carefully explains the plight of samurai at the end of the Kamakura Shogunate, the era that ends in a few lines in textbooks should emerge with the lives and anger of the people at the time, and the atmosphere of history moving forward.
This program is easily enjoyable not only for history fans but also for those who feel, "The Nanboku-cho period seems difficult." Please enjoy Okuda's history chat that extends beyond the textbook.
